Our cruise is docking in Nassau but only for a day.  If we had more time, I would definitely would have tried to meet Harbour Island resident India Hicks in person.  If there is anyone who epitomizes effortless elegance, it’s India.  For those of you who don’t know, her father was renowned interior designer David Hicks and her brother is designer Ashley Hicks.  Good taste runs in the family and can definitely be seen in the homes India has designed and decorated with her partner David Flint Wood.  She’s also been in a the news more lately in relation to the upcoming Royal Wedding since she was bridesmaid at the wedding of Princess Diana to Prince Charles.  Despite all these things or maybe because of them, she is the most unaffected and down to earth person which is so refreshing.  Since all of her properties are available to rent out, I definitely see another trip to the Bahamas in my future! Enjoy!

I am presuming the images with white floors are an update, one that must be refreshing in the tropics.

I live by the Atlantic, but up North, in Canada and even though it’s beautiful during the Summer, it literally freezes during winter, so… seeing this gorgeous home, with gorgeous beach and the sun shinning makes me feel a little bit warmer. I’d love to be walking on the beach at this very moment!

Enjoy the cruise and don’t forget to play a little (or a lot! 😉

Love it! Such great photos. Habour Island is BEAUTIFUL…sneak off from your cruise and go if you have a chance, and have lunch at the Pink Sands Hotel…it doesn’t get much more Habitually Chic than that!

    Have fun on your cruise!

Adore India! Homes that are loved and lived in! The photo walls themselves say what kind of person she is.

I love the symetry and defined spaces. Not to mention all the natural light being captured in all those whites and natural tones!
Love the bird cage over the table, too!

Harbour Island is the MOST amazing island! Definitely worth a trip. I went last March with a large group of friends and fell in love with the conch salad, pink beaches, roaming roosters and beautiful homes. Check out my blog posts on “Briland”!

I love the books and inspiration boards, photos and postcards everywhere

Ah, you are right. This is so effortless. Maybe it’s all the white, or the piles or picture frames, the cluttered quality that is kept cohesive by the steady earth tones and light hues. I am so glad you shared this. I’m dying for summer and spring!!

I have watched India’s style develop over the years, she has such elegance. Elegance, to me, means knowing when to keep things casual and not over think things. For example, one of my favorite elements on these pages is the shelf full of hats in between her bookcases. That mound of hats makes the bookcases so much more interesting.

  25. Cupcake February 8, 2011 | 11:49 am

Oh she’s fab! She sells ‘lifestyle’ like no other!

Harbour Island is like paradise. Definitely somewhere you need to visit soon! If you make it there, don’t miss India’s island boutique, The Sugar Mill. Exhibits more of her lovely coastal style, and they have some great finds!
