Have you been reading all the features on whether New York is dead or not? I took a walk today and every street on the Upper East Side was bustling with outside dinners and a new bodega had opened in a location that was left empty when another bodega closed this past winter. A lot of people I know are coming back after Labor Day weekend and I just read that New York Fashion Week hasn’t been cancelled. A sure sign that the city is indeed alive and well.

I was a little on the fence about going to The Metropolitan Museum of Art after they reopen on August 29, 2020 but it might actually be the best time to visit. Entry to the Museum is by timed ticket or reservation only and capacity is limited so it will be much less crowded than usual.

I saw the film The Burnt Orange Heresy in March before quarantine began and wrote about it in my post, Villa Pizzo and The Burnt Orange Heresy. It’s now available to rent on demand and rent or purchase on Amazon Prime and Apple TV. It’s worth watching for the Italian settings and some friends who just watched it said they loved it.

I am dying to see On the Rocks and can’t believe we have to wait until October to watch this new film from Sofia Coppola. The good news is that the comedy about relationships starring Rashida Jones, Bill Murray, and Marlon Wayans will be available to stream on Apple TV when it’s released in October 2020.

The Queen’s Gambit is an upcoming series starring Anya Taylor-Joy that centers on the “life of an orphan chess prodigy” named Beth Harmon “from the age of 8 to 22 as she struggles with addiction in her quest” to become a Grandmaster in chess. It’s based on the 1983 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis and will premiere on Netflix October 23, 2020.

If you want to see what the White House looked liked before they ruined the Rose Garden that Bunny Mellon designed for Jackie Kennedy, order Designing History: The Extraordinary Art & Style of the Obama White House by Michael S. Smith. I received an advance copy and I can’t wait to sit down and read it this weekend.

Be inspired for how your going to entertain when this pandemic is over or get new meal idea for your family in India Hicks’s new book An Entertaining Story.

When Everlane first debuted, their cashmere sweaters were amazing. I still have all of them from that time period but the new ones are awful. That’s why I’m so glad I found Naadam. I just ordered three of their $75 cashmere sweaters and can attest that they look and feel much more expensive. They also have them foe men. Check out the amazing sale their having right now too.

I’ve also taken advantage of the end of season sales to pick up a few things that were on my wishlists like these Castaner canvas & jute espadrilles in blue and black. I actually relaced them so they don’t cross over in the front since it looked like too much was going on in the front.

The plug on my hairdryer broke and even though I have a back up dryer, I l decided to order the highest rated dryer on Amazon. The Trezoro Professional Ionic Salon Hair Dryer, Powerful 2200 watt Ceramic Tourmaline Blow Dryer lives up to the hype. My hair has been very easy and fast to dry and has been looking great all week.

Don’t forget that the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends on Sunday, August 30, 2020. It’s your last chance to save on new fall fashions, accessories, menswear, beauty products, and home decor before they revert to full price.

Hope everyone stays safe as the hurricane moves across the country.

Bon week-end!

XOXO,

HC
