The Gold Standard

In honor of the Golden Globes, I’ve put together a collection of some of my favorite uses of gold. I am like a magpie when it comes to anything shiny and gold especially shoes but I am also using it more and more in my design work. I’m not tiling entire palazzos in Italy like Dolce & Gabbana above, but I am adding in little brass tables and gilt mirrors wherever I can. I love it’s warm glow so I was especially delighted to see it in all it’s splendor at Versailles last year. All that glitters may not be gold, but it sure is pretty!

Kelly Wearstler is also a fan of gold and has loaded her dining table with it!

That gold shower is to die for. I wonder if there’s an affordable gold tile out there? If so, I’m so using it!

Love the vast differences in the uses of gold. The Klimt painting is mind-bending beautiful; in person, it alters one’s expectations of what to expect from a painting. Thanks so much for including it–it now in New York- Lauder Museum(?) Mary

That warm gold grasscloth in the Brandolini bedroom is to die for. Wish I owned and could do such things to my place! Someday… Hope you’re enjoying the holiday weekend Heather!

    Heather,

I,too, use and love gold in my design work. A little sparkly glow makes all the difference. I also think it gives a room an acquired look and not like you spent a day on-line shopping. I do that too but when coupled with things that have a little age, like a gilt mirror, it takes it to the next level. Hope you have a great week. Thanks for the post.

    The Klimt painting is tremendous.

How does Kelly W even dine at that dining table? Not a fan of that display. I’m looking for the kitchen sink thrown in there.

I believe your article added new dimension to this quote I love: “More gold has been mined from the thoughts of men than has been taken from the earth.”.
Loved your choices to enlighten the idea…

May I suggest you the just-discovered Amber Room?!

Great post, timely and of the moment. Love the Eric Hughes living room, I have that one in my inspiration folder. The bar area from that spread was amazing too. Also love everything KWID.

There are so many incredible ways to use gold – a touch here and there, or an all out gold assault. I love the examples you have gathered here, Heather, it shows us how we can incorporate just the right amount of gold into our own interiors. Personally, I love the gold shelving unit (etagere?), which I could use in my modern condo. Great inspiration!!

I love using gold accents but need to work up the nerve to do something dramatic like this. Gold has to be the universal shade of luxury. It makes anything instantly glamorous. Thanks for sharing such inspiring images!
