One of my favorite projects last year was styling a dining table for the Sotheby’s Dining IN Online Sale. When they asked me to style a table for the Sotheby’s Dining IN New York Online Sale this year, I was more than happy to oblige. It’s a dream to be style a table with some of the best china, crystal, and silver ever made.

“Dining IN” is a recent addition to the Sotheby’s international sale calendar and is being presented both in New York and London as two concurrent online auctions, open for bidding until 11 August 2021 for New York and 12 August 2021 in London, that celebrate the dining experience in all its formats.

As we continue to entertain more at home these days, the sale is filled with pieces to set a beautiful table. Instead of spending years collecting china, you can bid on full sets of china from Royal Copenhagen like Flora Danica and Blue Lace, and tables on which to lay them. I’ve picked out some of my favorite lots from the New York auction.

Of course, I had to choose all the Flora Danica to set the table including this Set of Twelve Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica Salad Plates and the matching Set of Twelve Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica Dinner Plates.

This Set of Six Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica Dinner Plates also includes a circular footed dish and saucer.

I didn’t use flowers last year or this year to show that you can set a beautiful table with just beautiful objects instead.

Last year, I wasn’t able to use any furniture for my table but this year, I was able to have chairs from this Set of Eight English Black and Gilt Japanned Dining Chairs around the table. I love the patina on them.

I used the tureen from this Three Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica Wares lot as the centerpiece.

Just a reminder that knife edges always face the plate. I see a lot of knives facing out on Instagram and it drives me crazy.

This Gilt and Cut-Glass Table Service could be mixed with antique china or modern dinnerware.

I bet you can’t guess what this silver object is on the table.

This Pair of Buccellati Italian Parcel-Gilt Silver Salt And Pepper Shakers are incredibly unique and chic.

It doesn’t get much chicer than Royal Copenhagen and Meissen mixed together.

Do you owe someone a gift this year? This Meissen Asparagus Box and Cover would make a very lovely present.

I couldn’t set my table without this Set of Six Berlin Pan-Form Condiment Boxes and Covers with Silver-Gilt Mounts.

I asked the silver specialist for which silver polish they recommend and they use Goddard’s Silver Foam Polish or Hagerty Silversmiths’ Polish.

This Extensive American Silver English King Pattern Flatware Service from Tiffany & Co. was incredibly beautiful in person.

Upgrade your after dinner espresso or afternoon pick me up with this set of Six Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica Demi-Tasse Cups and Saucers.

I’ve seen chandeliers similar to this Russian Neoclassical Style Gilt Bronze and Cut Glass Eight-Light Chandelier in pared down interiors which makes them look even more special.

I love that this German Neoclassical Mahogany Dining Table can be extended for larger family gatherings or dinner parties.

This Royal Copenhagen Blue Lace Dinner, Tea, and Coffee Service is the dream. It already has bids which is no surprise.

This Pair of Restauration Gilt Bronze Vases would also look great in a minimal interior.

I have a few piece of Meissen Pink Dragon but this Meissen Green-Dragon Pattern Tea and Coffee Service is going to give me fever dreams. For anyone who thinks they are too young for real china, this is a very sexy set.

You could get this Pair of Gilt Bronze and Gilt Metal-Mounted White Marble Lamps for less than a new pair that will never live up to the quality.

I don’t save my good china for special occasions. I use it every day and I would definitely use this Set of Sixteen English Porcelain Dinner Plates every day too.

This Irish George IV Carved Walnut Side Table would make the perfect table for a bar.

I just broke a lid to the sugar bowl of my rare china tea set so i’m thinking I need to upgrade to a more durable silver tea set like this Assembled Eight-Piece Danish Silver Tea and Coffee Set by Georg Jensen.

You could use this Pair of Louis XVI Mahogany Side Cabinets by Jean-François Leleu anywhere not just the dining room.

This Baccarat Red-Overlay Empire Pattern Table Service would make your holiday table spectacular.

This Empire Gilt Bronze-Mounted Mahogany Console would also make a chic bar table.
