Mario Buatta Auction at Stair Galleries

I didn’t realize that interior designer Mario Buatta was such a hoarder. I was going to call him a collector but after I read that the first floor of his Gothic Revival home in Thompson, Connecticut collapsed under the weight of the furniture stored inside, he was upgraded to hoarder status. Although, he was definitely a chic hoarder with an amazing eye. He had started to renovate the house which was purchased in 1992 but for some reason let it deteriorate into disrepair for 20 years. Now furniture, artwork, and objects from that house and other storage areas are up for auction in almost 1000 lots at Stair Galleries in Hudson, New York. The house itself at 20 Chase Road has apparently just sold and is planned to become a bed and breakfast. I also hear there are more items that will be for sale in April. Will keep you posted when I know more.
