Perfect Transitional Outfit

Even thought it’s been 9,000 degrees in New York for the last month, I’m starting to think about fall and cooler weather. I’m trying to not to buy anything else this summer unless it can transition to fall in NYC and this navy oversized twill shirt and matching utility maxi skirt is a perfect transitional outfit.

I do need to begin by talking about the sizing. I ordered it two weeks ago and sized down one size in each piece which is usually what I can do with Cos. The shirt is fine one size down but the skirt was too big in the waist. I knew it would be too long and planned to have my tailor shorten it to midi length so that’s not an issue for me. The waist is elastic in the back so I ordered two smaller sizes to see which works better but I’m still waiting for them to arrive. The fabric is silky feeling with a little sheen so I wanted to let you know about that too but I like it and rarely wear black so the navy is perfect for me. Update: I took three sizes down in the skirt.

In August, I plan to wear it with my Celine triumph medium basket from 2020 and Celine dark brown leather sandals (no longer available) I bought in Paris in 2022. I have to say, both of these pieces have worn extremely well and I’m happy I bought both of them. I think another great option would be the navy Celine panier bag and similar Celine gladiator sandals.

I have a very similar gold-tone chunky mariner necklace that I will wear with this outfit along with similar chunky gold earrings.

I’ll wear my Linda Farrow x Cos Aviators which are my favorite new sunglasses for cloudy but bright days. Since they are sold out and I’m not sure they will be restocked, I’d suggest these aviator sunglasses.

I just bought the Westman Atelier Super Loaded Tinted Highlighter and Blender Brush but it comes out much lighter than it does in the video. It just adds a nice touch of highlight to make my skin look alive.

If we get more 90 degree weather, you could wear the utility maxi skirt with a white tank top. Even if it is hot, I’d carry a summer weight sweater in case of cold air conditioning inside. The v-neck sweater comes in charcoal, red, oat, and black to match any outfit.

I originally had another basket bag for this outfit but then I thought this butter yellow slouchy bag would be a more fun option. A less expensive sandals similar to my Celine sandals are these tan leather sandals. I switched to a bright red nail pedicure polish color recently but I think I’m going to go back to my favorite Hermès Rough h color which is a perfect transitional color.

I always wear gold jewelry but if you prefer silver, I love these silver and navy glass hoop earrings and silver-plated bracelet.

To finish things off, add the tortoiseshell cat-eye sunglasses.

When it gets a little cooler, I’ll wear the utility maxi skirt with the striped silk shirt that was a splurge treat earlier this summer. I know I will wear it with many different skirt, trousers, and jeans this fall and winter but you can find less expensive options here, here, and here.

I’ll probably wear this outfit with my ivory Claudette shoes from The Row. They’re on sale now if you can find a pair in your size but since they are mostly sold out, I also recommend these other ivory flats or the blush colored Mary Jane flats above.

I’ll also carry my burgundy Khaite Osa Tote but I love this new Victoria Beckham Bag. It even comes with a shoulder strap for when you over fill it with stuff.

I don’t need any new sunglasses but if I did, I’d choose these chic ivory sunglasses that look like bone.

The gold statement earrings are a great wearable size if you have been hesitant to try them. I found the Pistache Bianca Ring on Instagram and took a chance ordering it online. I absolutely love it and it fits true to size but can also be adjusted underneath. It comes in a bunch of chic color combinations too.

I’m still wearing Regime de Fleurs Là Bas and loving it too.

Another blue option to pair with the navy utility maxi skirt when it’s a little cooler is this blue merino wool top that’s also a great layering piece.

I have the flat version of these Heeled Fisherman Sandals and the heels are a much better option for skirts and dresses.

I really don’t need another tote but I keep coming back to this Celine medium cabas in Triomphe canvas and calfskin as a chic carryall for fall.

I’d add a little lightness to the outfit with the gold-plated pearl necklace and medium gold-plated pearl earrings.

Pick up the blue of the sweater and skirt with the gold-tone square-frame sunglasses.

I just purchased the Dermalogica PowerBright Dark Spot Peel to use in September when I’m no longer out in the sun to repair my hyperpigmentation.

If you want to get a leg up on the fall color trend of green, I’d suggest pairing this olive green cropped cardigan with the navy utility maxi skirt.

I really don’t need anymore shoes either but I love these burgundy leather Mary Jane flats to wear with jeans, trousers, skirts, and dresses this fall.

My first Gucci bag was in this navy print from the Gucci store in downtown Pittsburgh so this navy Gucci tote feels nostalgic to me. It’s a great size for work and travel.

I received a gift card to Bergdorf Goodman for my birthday and I’ve been saving it for something special this fall. I don’t need this burgundy Bottega Veneta Medium Half Moon Beauty Pouch Bag but I think it’s so chic and something I’d have forever.

You can match the asymmetrical round stone earrings to the cardigan or wear them with anything this fall for a pop of green.

We’re still seeing the influence of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy with smooth shiny hair held back by a tortoise headband and it’s a perfect look for fall.

I included a pair of round slim oversized sunglasses in my Instagram Stories of this outfit too.

Another great scent to try for fall is Regime des Fleurs Rock River Melody named after a horse.

Hope this gets you as excited about planning your fall transitional wardrobe as it has me.

XOXO,
