Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations
by habituallychic
05 . 08 . 12“Given the role Surrealism and other art movements play in the designs of both Schiaparelli and Prada, it seems only fitting that their inventive creations be explored here at the Met,” said Thomas P. Campbell, Director and CEO of The Metropolitan Museum of Art. “Schiaparelli’s collaborations with Dalí and Cocteau as well as Prada’s Fondazione Prada push art and fashion ever closer, in a direct, synergistic, and culturally redefining relationship.”
The opening gallery of Waist Up/Waist Down is an interesting look at why women in Schiaparelli’s era needed interesting jackets for sitting down in cafes while Miuccia Prada designed beautiful skirts for the woman on the go. Another difference was the hat that was important before and shoes that we all know are the way to a woman’s heart in this day and age. While there aren’t any shoes for sale in the gift shop, there are a few bags. There were also a lot on the thin arms of those in attendance this morning and many Prada dresses on the ladies at the Met Gala tonight. But that’s another conversation.

Love them all! I wish I can visit the exhibit and party too. I admire the MET for always presenting intelligent and very creative exhibits. I admire Miuccia Prada for her conservative chic. I agree that Anna Wintour looks good in anything. I loved her Prada gown tonight. Thanks for sharing Heather! 🙂
Quite a feat. Amazing, thoughtful and stupendous exhibit but your picture of Mrs. Prada gazing back is priceless!
Thanks for sharing the wonderful images to us in the Philippines.
Thanks so much for sharing these things with those of us far far away with no chance to attend in person. Your photos are such a gift for us. Thank you!
I’d never pick Miuccia Prada out as a fashion designer, based on her ensemble.
The exhibit looked lovely.
I’m so excited for this exhibit which opens to the public today. I’m planning on spending the day at the Met on Sunday looking at this in person. Thanks for the great shots of the collection. Also, I agree with Handpicked by Ron and Chris the shot of Prada gazing back is priceless!
Fantastic and Chic! I love the fashion, art and architecture. Thank you for sharing.
