Microsoft and Me
by habituallychic
06 . 09 . 11As a blogger and interior designer, I use technology everyday but that doesn’t mean that I know what I’m doing. I end up figuring out a lot of things as I go but always wish I had more help. So when Microsoft contacted me about styling their upcoming Preview event and said they would help with my tech needs, I immediately said yes! While you may buy your laptops, phones and other tech products in modern looking stores, you take them home to a space that looks a lot like my desk above. Microsoft has started to work with designers including Trading Spaces designer and HGTV’s Design Star judge Vern Yip. You can read all about his recent Style Tips for Tech project with Microsoft on Apartment Therapy.
The event that I am working on will introduce press to the latest products and accessories for the Xbox 360, Windows Phone and Windows laptop lines, in settings that look like the way you’d use them at home all styled by me. Of course, as part of this I got to try out all the products myself. The one that I was the least excited about was the Xbox but the more I used it and learned what it could do, it became my favorite new product. I thought it was all about video games, but did you know that you can use it to stream movies from Netflix and guide your yoga workout? Neither did I! I look forward to not only showing you photos of the event next week but also sharing some of the great tips and tricks I learned from the Microsoft team. I’ll also be giving away some great new products so definitely check back for more details!

What a great opportunity and Microsoft chose a wonderful interior designer. I know they will be pleased with your work. Congrats and good luck with this project!
Hi! I just recently started following your blog and I must say, so nice to read one that is text enriched! (by that I mean worthy of reading, not as in techy lingo)
I started my blog not too long ago and would love your support as a follower!

I like it. 🙂
It’s teaching old dogs new tricks–wonderful. I too am somewhat tech challenged but keep pushing myself into those areas in order to grow–and not get left behind.
And I thought all Interior Decorators used Apple 🙂
What a wonderful blog. Starting following you. xoxo
Please, do tell!!
Please tell me your desk is not always this neat!!!
What a fabulous opportunity. Congratulations! Look forward to all the tech information you will share.
The technical battle rages daily–but I am definitely getting more savy. Although I use a Mac, any pointers that you glean will be welcome. Mary
Smart folks at Microsoft getting someone who works with their goods and is visual. I will be interested to learn what the corporate world thinks of a designer’s demands on their products.
Nice job!
Congrats, Heather! This is a great opportunity and sounds like a lot of fun!
Sam brought up a question I’ve had…what computer do most designers use? I always thought it but only because hubby could get them through his employer at a discount) but am hearing more are now using hp. Would be interesting to do a survey to see what people are using and what software they find most useful with their chosen system.
Congratulations, sounds like a great challenge 🙂 Looking forward to the pictures. Nicolex
