I Found a Home!
by habituallychic
06 . 25 . 11I want to again thank everyone who crossed their fingers and prayed for me to find an apartment. After dealing with shady brokers and walking up more flights of stairs than I care to remember, I am happy to say that I found a home! It’s on the top floor of a co-op elevator building with south facing windows and laundry in the basement. Woo hoo! Bad news is that I can’t move in until July 11th so my stuff will be headed to storage while I visit my family and camp out with my friends.
One reader asked why I was moving and I was beginning to wonder why I was moving myself. My current apartment got to be very expensive for its size and location plus after five years, I thought it was time for a change. Of course, my apartment began to look more like a mansion compared to some of the places I saw this week. I’m still excited to move though. We New Yorkers tend to squirrel away stuff under the bed in the back of the closet and I’m looking forward to cleaning house and getting organized. I’m also excited for a change of scenery. When you walk the same path everyday, you stop seeing things. I’ve read that you should change the route you walk everyday so you stretch your brain and become more mindful. I’m hoping that a move to a new area will do the same.
And most importantly, there is the redecorating! I’m definitely looking forward to sharing my new apartment with you all and hopefully it will help make up for my lack of posts this week. I really appreciate your support, encouragement and patience and promise to get back to our regular posting schedule tomorrow. In the meantime, anyone want to help me pack?

I am was thinking several times about your quest to find an apartment. I am glad you find a new project 😉
I would love to help you pack, but I will have to take a long flight for that 😉
Anyway I am very happy for you, I cross my fingers for your new home.

H-A-P-P-Y for you! Yeah! Looking forward to following your thinking process as you decorate and get settled in to the new place.
We also bought and sold this week and I’m in the same crazy spot – be glad you only have a NYC apartment to pack and not a 4 bedroom house + toddler to move across the country!
Going to hang out in Toronto and maybe hit NYC while we’re waiting for the new place (out west) to be available.
Saw a cool sofa on Crate and Barrel today designed for NYC narrow stair wells where sofa deck pops right out for easier carrying…
Staying tuned…

Congratulations, I am Australian but I was fortunate enough to live and work in NYC for over 2 years and I can so relate to the walking the same route even after that relatively short time I tried to vary my way home to see different doormen to acknowledge and new places etc. Everyone starts to recognise you. Though having said that the neigbourhood feel was very special to me too!
Relish your new home and can’t wait to see the pictures as you decorate!
Love your blog.
Judy (now Adelaide, Australia)
Congratulations!

Congrats Heather!! Are you still gonna be an upper east sider or are you changing neighborhoods. I just resigned my lease on my apartment in the east 60s, but I’m thinking I need a new sofa to change it up a bit. Hope you have an easy and stressless move.
Congratulations! We are also moving–just got the keys to our new rental this morning! Oy is there so much work to be done. Luckliy, we aren’t moving until mid-July so we have time. I too am going to try and purge.
Good luck with all that lies ahead!
Congratulations and happy moving!
Happy Moving Day!! I believe that change is always good for the soul (after the initial shock!). Cleaning/clearing out (although a lot of work) feels so good; then there is all that space to acquire more stuff. Sending love (and Mini Beast?), Mary
*waves at Heather. We have to stop meeting this way.
“We New Yorkers tend to squirrel away stuff..” I think either you’re a squirreler (he) or a minimalist constantly cultivating a deep personal relationship with the trash bin (me).. city not withstanding.
I frequently find covert trash bin operations are called for…
I love that photograph. Congrats on the new nest.
Congratulations, Ms Chique- a good week for you then- so look forward to a bright an sunny future.Enjoy your weekend! XOXO

Heather,
As difficult as moving is- it is transformational
… in ways we only find in the process !!! So I hope you will try to think about that when you find yourself thinking that the packing process will NEVER end.

looking forward to sharing this adventure with you ! Lots of blessings in the new home !

Good luck with the move…..happy Sunday, xv.
Congrats on your success!
Can you tell me what country house that is? I know I’ve seen that photo spread before but I can’t place it and it’s so beautiful.
Congrats on the new place! I’m sure you’ll put all of your personal touches on it to make it a home. 🙂
Heather,
just want to add…consider painting your bedroom light pink or a fleshy pink color. for good love and romance feng shui !!!!! and I think very beautiful, peaceful energy for your sleeping sanctuary !
