Chic Needs Sleep
by habituallychic
06 . 21 . 11I want to apologize for not posting early on Monday as usual. I was out looking at apartments…for five hours. I haven’t had to go through this process for over five years and I am ready to keel over from exhaustion. I did not find my dream home today but I have hope for one of the places I am seeing tomorrow. As much as I dread moving, I am excited to redecorate. I saved the photo above as a concept for my desk area. (I lost the credit so please let me know if you know where it originated.) I have a similar French chair also upholstered in blue velvet and definitely need to find a rolling tiered table for my printer. Needless to say, I also love the gallery wall. I have a lot of art but may have to troll the flea market for more to create a composition that large. I think the shopping and decorating is the only thing getting me through this ordeal. Keep your fingers crossed that I find a place soon!

Have fun househunting! While it’s tought to find a diamond in the rough, think about all the fun you will have decorating!!
wish you luck !!
Hope you find your dream home and won’t be too exhausted. The desk area looks very lovely.Good luck with the house hunting- have a great week.

Hopefully you’ll know it’s The One as soon as you walk in there. Finding the right place is a bit like falling in love!
Good luck.
Good luck! No idea who credit goes to, but also love it. I find the all black frames you sometimes see for a wall like that to be too stark. I like this one better.
I love everything about that photo. The “wall” is fantastic-who ever composed the placement of the pieces is a master. I remember my period of apartment hunting in New York–agony, but rush of success once a place was secured made the journey worth it. Good luck. Mary
Good luck! It’s certainly not fun, but once you find your new home, this will all be a distant memory!
Chic, go get some sleep!
Good luck! Apartment hunting in Manhattan is tough!
The desk/office area is great…but don’t you have STUFF?? Files? Office supplies? I’m always envious of minimal offices like this, but know it’s not enough space for all the things I need.
Hi! That shot was from Canadian House & Home Magazine, March 2009. It was a story I created about organizing stylishly, using the home of our Editor in Chief, Suzanne Dimma’s home as a backdrop. That’s her gorgeous gallery wall. The photographer was Stacey Brandford.
Glad it inspired!

Moving should also be a time to think of unhoarding the stuff that one accumulated over the years but no longer loves. Thus, the great feeling of starting anew.
It would be interesting to hear more about the moving process….why are you moving?…what is on your wish list (that you don’t have now)…what part(s) of town are you looking at…why those neighborhoods….more of the good, bad or ugly of looking for an apartment in new york…all of this would be enjoyable for the non New York readers. And lots of material for posting too!
Your perfect home is waiting for you around the corner!
i am flush with excitement
i feel as if i am huntung
Good luck Heather, House hunting is really hard work! It will be worth it. Love your desk idea.

Great blog. I just noticed that HC is also your initials. I like your blog just that much more now.
You’ll have fun redecorating don’t go overboard and stick to your rule of not buying new furniture until you know what you want to do with the old piece! The chair stands out and you can never have too much wall art!
House hunting in the city is exhausting and doing it in the city heat makes it all that much worse. Good luck and keep beautiful visions in your head to get you through.
