Take Ivy
by habituallychic
07 . 22 . 10I came across the book Take Ivy online but when I realized it wouldn’t be released until August, I made a mental note to order it later. Imagine my surprise and delight when the publisher emailed me a few days later and asked if I would like to receive an advance copy. Would I like a book filled with cute preppy boys from the 1960’s??? Um, yes please and can you FedEx it overnight?! I didn’t really say that but I thought about it!
Take Ivy was shot on the campuses of eight Ivy League universities and was originally published in Japan in 1965. The book has quite a cult following among the preppy bloggers and fashion designers. The Trad was even nice enough to scan his vintage copy and share it with his readers. But now, Powerhouse Books has translated the original Japanese text and is reissuing this aesthetic overload of prep style. The photos also illustrate how classic well made clothing never goes out of style. Take Ivy is definitely the BMOC of books!

i love men fashion. I adore ermenegildo zegna autumn winter 2011 collection
Reminds me of Love Story. Sigh!
Oh so yummy, wish I could get the men in the family to take note…alas.
Just had a thought, those “boys” who we all think look so hot are now about 55 years old, and probably don’t have any style whatsoever. Hmmmm
I had forgotten about Madras shorts and Oxford shirts…still looking good. Love the shot with the bike and badminton racket. White socks anyone? Great post. Mary
Where are all these guys now? They are, no doubt, dapper and sophisticated older men. Date night anyone?
These were my contemporaries….no wonder I still like shorts and deck shoes. Classics just never loose their appeal. Wanna know where these guys are now? Retiring!!!

Love the plaid shorts and loafers. Would love to see Jon Hamm in that outfit on Mad Men. Yum!
so weird to think those are our dads -the 60s!
Love the 60s…love the prep. Now that I live on the East Coast so many of my friends went to the Ivys….this will be a great gift! Elizabeth
This book is crying out for a sister publication about girls at the Seven Sisters colleges.
Thanks for the tip on the book! I’ll preorder now
Go Princeton Tigers! Way to make the cover.
Well; 65 years I think style has probably become them. I was a bit engaged, the pics and those colors!
All in the name sake of documentation only, I am sure!!!
Lovely book, reminds me of the 1980’s hurrah to the preppy handbook.
Oh; just found my copy amongst all my old school things.
Thanks for the post Heather,
L.
