Map Quest: Part Deux
by habituallychic
07 . 25 . 10When I posted about maps in the post Map Quest two years ago, I only had a few examples to share. Now there are not only more examples of maps as art and wallpaper but also maps painted on walls and ceilings. If papering an entire bedroom as Steven Gambrel did above seems daunting, you could always try it in a small powder room. Even easier is just hanging a framed map on a wall. The best part is that you’ll always know where you’re going. Enjoy!

Always loved a good Map-room, Heather, especially in a kids room! Also really like the dark blue one you have featured here, and you can never go wrong with India Hick’s easy style!!

Love the Miles Redd ceiling! I love to give framed maps as gifts…mememtos of special places shared or trips taken. Great post!
Love, love, love the Miles Redd ceiling!

A map is always interesting and educational. I’m in the middle of setting up a study room for my kids with one big mural on one wall. I can’t wait to get it done. Thanks for these photos!
I love these. As a teacher, i’m always surrounded with maps in the classroom. I love to see them used as decor in the home(they add a kind of old world charm) and they still can also be used as an instructional tool
while being decorative.
I love decorating with maps. Maybe it’s the promise of travel and what there is to find out there in the world. Antique maps are wonderful but there are beautiful modern versions as well. My favorite is thesearethings.com
I did my son’s room in nautical maps when he was 8, he is now 6 feet tall and the room has aged wonderfully for him. The beauty of maps is that they are great for the young and old.
THE BLUE PAINTED CEILING WAS ACTUALLY DESIGNED AND PAINTED BY RAYMOND GOINS. IT WAS PAINTED ON CANVAS AND THEN INSTALLED ONTO THE CEILING. THE ASTROLOGICAL SIGNS OF THE FAMILY MEMBERS WERE INCLUDED, AND RAY MADE A NICE LITTLE SURPRISE FOR THEM BY HAVING THE SIGNS “GLOW” WHEN THE LIGHTS WERE DIMMED OUT (HE DIDN’T TELL THEM- HE WANTED IT TO BE A COMPLETE SURPRISE)!
The painted ceiling reminds me of a mini Grand Central – I absolutely love it!
A very tasteful collection of maps. Love the ceiling with the armillary pendant.
Cheers,
Claudia
