Interior designer Suzanne Kasler was tasked with designing the Great Room in the 2020 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach but the room was far from great when she first saw it. The large double-height asymmetrical room was devoid of architectural details and light. “What was great about the space was the volume, but that’s also what presented the biggest challenge,” she said. Kasler insists that if you can really get the architectural elements right then you can do less decorating so she focused on adding crown moldings and round mirrored “windows” and lacquered all the walls in Benjamin Moore’s White Dove to brighten up the dark space. The de Gournay Sans Soucis wallpaper that she designed further helps to lighten up the room. Shades of pink and yellow from the design were pulled out into the upholstery and décor as an ode to Palm Beach pastels while the Benjamin Moore Curtis Salmon high-gloss pink painted wall of built-in bookcases adds another focal point. Natural elements such as the rattan chaise from Atelier Vime, sisal carpet, and linen fabrics are perfect choices for the tropical climate. Needless to say, the Great Room is now a great place for everyone to gather but then again, I would have expected nothing less from the talented Suzanne Kasler.
