Joyeux Bastille Day!

One of the main reasons that Stefan and I visited Paris last year was to make a pilgrimage to Versailles. It is one of the most gorgeous places on earth and definitely worth the trip. Although I posted many photos of Paris, I never actually posted any of my photos from Versailles. It was so special that part of me wanted to save them for myself and since I took over 1000 photos that day, organizing them was a bit overwhelming. But seeing as it’s Bastille Day, I thought it might be a good time to post some of them. All of these photos were taken outside of the chateau and illustrate the breathtaking beauty of the architecture. One of the things I missed after returning to New York were all of the amazing sculptures and carvings on the buildings. Everywhere you look is something special and unique. Hope you enjoy them!

As much as I adore NYC, the history and architecture of beautiful European cities is so compelling! Your photography is amazing, Heather– you were obviously there on a beautiful day. What kind of camera do you use?

French Country Cottage – You definitely have to plan a trip! It was amazing!

    Teresa Hatfield – Thanks!

Heidiopia – It was a gorgeous 78 degree day last September! I use a Nikon D40 which takes great photos out of doors but I need a new camera for interiors.

Picture of Elegance – Do you think you will ever go back? We didn’t get to see everything so I definitely need another trip!

A Gift Wrapped Life – I had that feeling then and also rounding the corner to the chapel! I actually gasped out loud!

Sarah Winchester – Thanks! It was the perfect day! My other friends went in the rain so we made sure we checked the weather before we went!

    Stefan/Architect Design – I know! Le sigh!

Alice Olive – I wish it was that kind of weather now. I can’t take much more of this humidity!

I love Love LOVE Versailles!! I’ve been there 3 years in a row and each time I go I discover more beauty and get a little bit more teared up. I’ve posted a few pictures on my blog as well and I think we both managed to go on beautiful days! Your photos are beautiful and they bring me back! Can you believe that architecture!?!

I must say though that the Petit Trianon and Marie Antionette’s Hamlet are my most favorite places at Versailles.

Bastille Day is also my Birthday!! Next year I will hopefully be spending my 21st in France! I am so excited! Versailles is très beau! I can’t wait to be there myself!

I happened to be in Paris for Bastille day in 2001 and saw the most amazing fireworks at the Eiffel tower! Once in a lifetime experience 🙂

So amazingly gorgeous it almost hurts. The detail of perfection everywhere you look. Of course, it was all a little mad when you think that all of the nobility lived here so that the King could keep everyone under control. Thanks a million. Mary

I’ve been to Versaille a couple of times and there is still soooo much of it I haven’t seen. I think the next time I go I will only explore the gardens. When I first went, in high school, the fountains were being cleaned (boo!) but when I went again last year they were running and classical music was being played in the background, beautiful. Next time I think I will rent a bike and a row boat, have a pic nic and make a day of it. I want to go now :o). Thanks for the post.
