Portes de Paris
by habituallychic
09 . 14 . 09Many of the buildings in Paris are built around an interior courtyard which is either reserved for potted plants or parking. The doors or portes that close off these secret spaces became my obsession during the trip. Some look like they are painted and polished once a day while others look as though they haven’t been touched since the day they were installed. Some are intricately carved and highly decorated but even the simplest of doors look elegant and interesting due to their beautiful colors. The blues, greens and greys are just heavenly! J’adore!

Love the doors!
I did the same thing when I was in Paris, photos of the wonderful entrance ways. Great captures.
Obsession indeed! They are all so pretty and elegant. Great collection of images.
WOW those are so beautiful! I love those. My favorite ones are the lacquered painted doors. Hope you had a great trip!
Paris is fabulous for doors, I drool over them everytime I’m there – but I think I have a slight door fetish!

Definition, Door; A structure where people live or work (usually ordered along a street or road); ” the door to success”! Love the colours, so rich and happy.
OMG what a fabulous post. I think I LOVE every one of them! A-M xx
love those intricate doors!
Wow, do I want to go to Paris more than ever. I can see why so many creative souls have found this city irresistible. Everywhere you look, inspiration!
Beautiful! interesting…not one red door…maybe that is too bright?
Hi Heather, Is this the foundation for a book? Your photos are amazing. They make me imagine stories of what happened inside those doors over the centuries. Thanks for the great morning inspiration. This post is definitely a keeper.
Fabulous shots!!! I was fascinated by the doors too. Seems like everything the French do is done with STYLE!
Sounds like your trip was fabulous!
I love the blue and gray doors. What a wonderful way to capture part of the essence of the city.
Thanks for sharing.

What an expansive study of doors! Each one so distinctive. I love the blues. Thank you for sharing.
cuteness!
Beautiful! I saved so many of these pictures, some of which evoked a feeling of having known these places in another life, time and place. Wonderful!! You took so many, it’s really nice that you appreciate such things so much..
I’ve just begin to read this blog and it seems like a warm space, looking forward to many more pictures like this.
I think keeping in mind your appreciation for these things and for photography, it’d be lovely if you take pictures every now and then of details that you appreciate in NYC, since it’s such a textured city!
Did you do some food photography?
I love this post! The doors give me such a real feeling of what Paris must be like. Don’t think this would be as interesting in any other city, but it would be fun to try!
The entrance doors were very important in France! Look at all the beautiful carvings in the wood or even ont he stone! Beautiful mascarons !!
These are very inspiring images for designing front doors in future!
Thank you very much!

One of them reminds me of Julia Child’s door on Julie and Julia…. oh, I want to go to Paris!!
** Smiling**.. A few months ago I went to Helsinki and did the same thing too with apartment doors, seeing your post just reminded me of the post I haven’t done yet, and also how alike we all are as creative people.
What a fabulous collection of doors! I always like to imagine what is behind these doors and just love to take a peek inside when, by chance, one is open….

I do the same thing when I am in Paris…click, click, click pictures of the doors. I am always intrigued by the massive, colorful, textural, beautiful doors! Nice collection of photos Heather!

Really pretty! I had a plan for quite some time now, to make a beautiful collage of beautiful doors from all over the world, and framed it. I still need to collect some beauties, but you seem to be there!!
Super, super, super post! I love European doors – ah the character & soul…the true ‘eyes’ of a home. Can’t you see Hugo, Valerie, Rimbaud, Monet etc coming and going through them.
In 2 weeks I’m off to England on an antique buying trip and this post has me jonesing to leave tonight!
My photo album of Paris had people scratching their heads wondering what’s up with all the doors, window boxes, gates, etc. It’s just so indescribably beautiful and exciting and romantic and wonderful.
i have a door thing, too! you really outdid yourself getting all of these wonderful shots!
It’ amazing that something as simple as a door can be so beautiful. I just got back from New Orleans and have a ton of iron balcony photos, but wish I had taken more shots of the doors! Great post.
Well, you have me beat hands down on your door photo collection. You have a great eye and show Paris through some wonderful architecture!
These are very beautiful photos. I really love the 4th photo — looking into the courtyard.
I love Paris doors. Have taken dozens of photos like these myself. They are intriguing!
so funny, i did the same thing in Buenos Aires. Love the doors.
