Portes de Paris

Many of the buildings in Paris are built around an interior courtyard which is either reserved for potted plants or parking. The doors or portes that close off these secret spaces became my obsession during the trip. Some look like they are painted and polished once a day while others look as though they haven’t been touched since the day they were installed. Some are intricately carved and highly decorated but even the simplest of doors look elegant and interesting due to their beautiful colors. The blues, greens and greys are just heavenly! J’adore!

Beautiful! I saved so many of these pictures, some of which evoked a feeling of having known these places in another life, time and place. Wonderful!! You took so many, it’s really nice that you appreciate such things so much..
I’ve just begin to read this blog and it seems like a warm space, looking forward to many more pictures like this.
I think keeping in mind your appreciation for these things and for photography, it’d be lovely if you take pictures every now and then of details that you appreciate in NYC, since it’s such a textured city!

I love this post! The doors give me such a real feeling of what Paris must be like. Don’t think this would be as interesting in any other city, but it would be fun to try!
The entrance doors were very important in France! Look at all the beautiful carvings in the wood or even ont he stone! Beautiful mascarons !!

Really pretty! I had a plan for quite some time now, to make a beautiful collage of beautiful doors from all over the world, and framed it. I still need to collect some beauties, but you seem to be there!!
Super, super, super post! I love European doors – ah the character & soul…the true ‘eyes’ of a home. Can’t you see Hugo, Valerie, Rimbaud, Monet etc coming and going through them.

My photo album of Paris had people scratching their heads wondering what’s up with all the doors, window boxes, gates, etc. It’s just so indescribably beautiful and exciting and romantic and wonderful.
