Bachelor Pad August Update

Everyone has been asking about the Bachelor Pad so I guess an update is in order. I can’t show too many photos because I don’t want to ruin the big reveal but I thought a before and after photo of the bathroom wouldn’t hurt.
I had the bathroom painted in Benjamin Moore White Ice which I thought would be a pale blue but it looks a little bit more green. Either that or the original green walls are affecting the color. It actually worked out well though because the bachelor owned a vintage French art poster from the 60’s that looks perfect in the space. I also bought all Jonathan Adler white lacquer bathroom accessories and a new shower curtain from Restoration Hardware. The funny thing is that I bought the old white one for the bachelor almost a year ago when a visit to his apartment revealed no curtain or liner. (I can only imagine the reason why but let’s not go there.) Even funnier since he lives a stone’s throw away from Gracious Home which is where I bought it.
Still not sure why he charges all his electronics in the bathroom but maybe we can work on that next!
We’re having a bit of a lull in the action at the Bachelor Pad due to some “financial restructuring” so since I can’t buy anything, I’ve been working on some organizational projects including the closets. I have four down and only one to go! There is nothing that makes me happier than to look at all the pretty shirts lined up on matching hangers. It is a far cry from the wire hangers from the drycleaner that they were hanging on before. I would have liked to have repainted all the insides of the closets but I decided that was way too much trouble and no one would have appreciated that but me anyway.
“No more wire hangers!”
While I was in the Hamptons last week, I picked up this wonderful little painting at the Silas Marder Gallery in Sag Harbor. They have a lot of great works so if you’re in the area, you should definitely stop by and also their other location in Bridgehampton. The photo is a little fuzzy so I apologize but the shagreen box is by R&Y Augousti and holds all his cuff links. The vintage bedside tables are from Pieces in Atlanta and the lamps are from Crate and Barrel. Oh, and the little Asian accent cup is from Pearl River Mart. A motley assorted crew of objects but that’s what makes it look personal and not like someone came in and “designed” the place.
Every time I visit the Bachelor Pad, I love looking out the bedroom window at this beyond ridiculous penthouse apartment or apartments. I’m still not sure how many floors they have or what is going on in the part that looks like it held an old water tower but I’m determined to find out! I’ll keep you posted!

Love that you organized the closet and that the shirts are hung by color. No more wire hangers is a good thing.

It’s looking fabulous -but I stopped dead in my tracks with that picture of his view. That penthouse is AMAZING!! That view is amazing!! I’m so jealous 🙁 My view is of a courtyard of an old folk’s home – I’M NOT KIDDING!
PVE Design, We’ll have to see how long it lasts. I’m not sure the bachelor or his housekeeper will ever keep it up. Oh well.
Lisa, You should see the hall closet! That was an even bigger project!
Be the Change, the actual view across the way is the top of a not so pretty building that now has workers doing all sorts of things on top of it. The penthouse I have to admit is a little to the left but still amazing none the left!
Love the closet! UUmmmm…is the light fixture in the bathroom going to be changed???? 🙂
It’s a rental Poppy so I don’t think he’s going to want to spend the money on something he can’t take with him but maybe I will call the building and see what they can do.
You’ve inspired me to get rid of my older dress shirts and hang the high quality ones that remain on wooden hangers. Thanks!

DC Lawyer, You won’t regret it! They not only look nice but they are actually easier to grab in the morning when they are out of the plastic drycleaner bags.

Lost sight of the fact that it is a rental!!!Sorry! Maybe if he switches out the light fixture, he can pop the old one back in and use the new one in his next nest!!!
Wow…thank you for the tidbit. The design is looking really great! Can’t wait to see the rest. Does the big reveal have anything to do with the Domino surprise you mentioned a while back? Congrats on a job well done! You’re well on your way to your own firm!

Can’t wait to see the finished product. However, the “before” shot of the bathroom really doesn’t look bad. Tidy away the phone chargers and the jumbo bottle of Listerine and it looks fine. I’m sure you’ll have made a much bigger impression on the rest of the apartment.

Heather, you are amazing….and i still cannot beleive you are doing this for FREE! He doesn’t realize what a good thing he has going here. I hopw he is taking you out for a very expensive wrap up dinner. I am looking forward to that big reveal! 😉

Katie, I forwarded your message to him. We’ll see what it gets me. I was promised a trip to the Cape early on but that has yet to happen. Perhaps I can guilt him into it. If not, I’m going to Barney’s to buy some Louboutins!
Anonymous, I bought those at Gracious Home. I think they were 15 for $20 or so. You can also get similar ones at The Container Store. You have no idea how much I love that store. I also organized all his childhood memoriabelia into matching plastic bins. Surprising how much closet space you can free up when you organize things. Of course he hasn’t even noticed yet but what can you do.
Ok – I ordered 100 shirt hangers and a number of coat and suit hangers.
One very good source appears to be the bamboo hangers from onlyhangers.com. Bamboo is an inexpensive, attractive and environmentally friendly choice.
another great, cheap place for wood hangers is Ikea! I got all mine there.

I’ll have to check out onlyhangers.com. We’ve used Robert Carlton Hangers for work and they were great.
Be the Change, I was actually at Ikea yesterday and saw some hangers but they were a little thin. I like the ones I bought at Gracious Home a lot.
Bad idea to put a vintage print or original art, even framed with glass, in a bathroom. The humidity is going to get in and gradually damage it. (It’s actually worse with glass; the humidity that gets in will be trapped. Ask a framer.)
I am loving your work on this project… one comment I have to make is to suggest that you keep all the shirts on wire hangers. It’s doubtful that the owner will transfer them over, seeing how many they have and how many trips they make to the dry cleaner each week. At least all the shirts will be on white dry cleaner hangers… who’s going to find the time to transfer all the shirts each and every time every week?
Is the Restoration Hardware shower curtain “Dobby Stripe” in Ash?
