Ultimate Mix and Match Fall Transitional Pieces

The reason I get so excited about fall is because it’s New York’s best season. It can still be quite hot into October though so I’ve put together an array of pieces that can be mixed and matched when it’s still warm and then can easily transition to cooler temperatures. If you aren’t into skirts, you can swap them out for a pair of white jeans or ivory flowy trousers. On the weekends, you can pair the tops with soft blue jeans. When it gets colder, layer on a chunky cashmere sweater, knee high boots, and a chic coat. The possibilities are endless so you can stretch your fall wardrobe for months to come.

Matching sets are going to be big for fall and are a great way to beat the heat in August and September. Start with this Fancy Cashmere Tank Dress or Fancy Cashmere T-Shirt Dress (I’d have my tailor sew up the side slits) or the Fancy Cashmere T-Shirt Mini Dress as your base layer. Throw the Fancy Cashmere Cardigan over your shoulders on the walk to work and then out it on when you get to the office. These pieces also come in black if neutrals aren’t your thing.

When it’s still hot pair the outfit with tan leather sandals and later with patent-trimmed leather mules or these less expensive point toe slingbacks. I love the neutral color of the leather shoulder bag that would work with any colors in your closet. Add more neutrals with the Hermès stainless steel, leather and diamond watch and top things off with a reasonably priced pair of pearl-bead hoops earrings.

I forgot to mention that I have the crewneck Fancy Cashmere Sweater from last year that is sadly sold out. It is the perfect transitional weight and incredibly soft. I really wish they would restock them and the v-neck sweater so don’t snooze on the Fancy Cashmere. It will probably not be restocked. There are a few pieces for men if you want to try those for yourself or the man in your life.

Swap the dress for this linen skirt with belt and add the Fancy Cashmere Tank with the Fancy Cashmere Cardigan. When it’s still warm, wear the brown suede wedge sandals and later with the bow-detailed suede mules.

The combined bucket bag looks much more expensive than it costs so then you can splurge on the Cartier Panthère gold watch. The open neckline calls for this gold-plated emerald charm necklace.

I haven’t worn shorts since 2007 but I love them on others, especially with a blazer if you work in a creative field. Start with these ivory Wool Italian Bermuda Shorts that are very on sale and the matching Sculpted Italian Wool Blazer. When the weather is cooler, swap out the shorts for the matching Straight Italian Wool Pants. With both outfits, you can add this silk tank top, the Fancy Cashmere Tank above or the linen blend tank below.

When it’s still warm, wear the shorts or pants with the brown leather slingback sandals and the brown leather slingback pumps or these less expensive point toe slingbacks. A less expensive option are these burgundy pointy toe pumps. Finish it off with Hermès H Heure Watch and gold-plated pearl bracelet.

The brown suede bag will look good in any weather.

Pleated skirts always remind me of chic women in Milan and they are having a moment this fall so make sure to add one to your wardrobe. Start with this ivory pleated pull-on midi skirt and linen blend tank and top it off with this tweed bomber jacket. I predicted that bomber jackets were going to be a thing soon when I saw them on a few girls in Paris in this spring and I was right on the money. I’ve seen them at a lot of retailers for fall.

When it’s hot, add the taupe suede sandals and later switch them out for the Venetian velvet slippers. The hot bag for fall is the surprisingly practical Loewe Puzzle Fold convertible medium leather tote that Jennifer Lawrence has already been seen sporting. A less expensive option is the shopper bag with buckle. If you want to try the new double bag trend, add this incredible Bottega dupe woven crossbody bag.

Top it all off with Cartier Panthère gold watch and gold-plated necklace.

If you splurge on one item this fall, make it this chunky relaxed cashmere cardigan that is a dupe for similar sweaters that cost over $1,000. This is the twine beige color but I also really love the sable taupe color that would also pair well with this neutral slip skirt.

When it’s still warm, pair the skirt with the ivory lightweight cashmere top and throw the cardigan over your shoulders. When it’s warm, wear this with the tan suede sandals and later with the tan suede point-toe flats. A less expensive option are these tan point toe kitten heels. Add this suede shopper tote and Hermès H Heure Watch.

A chic splurge are the Bottega Veneta gold tone earrings but you can get a similar look for less with these chunky gold tone earrings.

This ribbed cashmere midi dress is currently on sale and makes a great base for the relaxed cashmere cardigan or any of the jackets. When it’s warm, add the taupe suede sandals and later the suede pumps. I love the color of this taupe quilted suede shoulder bag with the Hermès stainless steel, leather and diamond watch. Top thing off with the gold-plated bracelet.

You should also think about adding a cropped tweed jacket to your fall closet. This tweed jacket a great price point that won’t break the bank. Pair it with another slip skirt and one of the tops like the linen blend tank.

I love these embellished patent-trimmed leather Mary Jane flats that are more elevated than plain flats. If you prefer a heel, try these tan suede pumps. Add the large textured-leather tote here or shopper bag with buckle.

Top it all off with Cartier Panthère gold watch and gold-plated necklace.

If you want to splurge on a cropped jacket, I am dying over this new Celine Chelsea jacket in double houndstooth wool. Pair it with this pleated woven midi skirt and brown cashmere sweater. In warmer temps, you can wear these brown suede sandals or later with these brown suede flats. A less expensive option are these brown suede ballet flats.

Another splurge option for fall is this Flip Flap Intrecciato-leather and canvas tote bag that allows you to flip the pocket from the outside to the inside of the bag.

Add the Hermès stainless steel, leather and diamond watch and top things off with a reasonably priced pair of pearl-bead hoops earrings.

Here’s to fall!

XOXO,
