Mix and Match Outfit Inspiration from Jennifer Lawrence and Kendall Jenner

We had some great looks on actress Jennifer Lawrence this week while she filmed a commercial on the streets on New York. Model Kendall Jenner returned from Paris, where she looked very ladylike, and also wore two great navy looks around NYC. The more I looked at the images together, I realized you could mix and match almost everything they were wearing to create a capsule wardrobe for a trip or for the start of cooler weather.

One of my followers tried to goad me into a debate about Kendall’s shorts being too short. First of all, she’s a 27 year old model who stands 5’10” with legs for days. She can wear anything she wants. Secondly, the key to being inspired by a model, celebrity, or even an influencer is to use their outfit or style as a jumping off point. No one is saying you should wear short-shorts if that’s out of your comfort zone. Replace them with white jeans or longer Bermuda shorts or trousers or jeans. The climate where you live will also play a role in how you interpret these looks. Maybe you will wear the short white shorts or swap them for a white dress over which you throw on the navy blazer.

The point I’m trying to make is that the possibilities are endless once you start playing around.

Both Kendall and Jennifer wore a bit of navy this week which I prefer to black in the summer but you could certainly substitute black for navy and even pair them which Jennifer did in one of her outfits. They both wore a lot from The Row which is the epitome of “quiet luxury” but solid colored pieces are easy to find in less expensive options which I’ve tried to do with all of the items.

The exact blazer that Kendall wore in NYC is the The Row Bastienne Wool Blazer at the top left. The description says, ” it is designed for a relaxed, unstructured shape without shoulder pads, giving it the feel of laid-back cool while still looking polished”. Sounds exactly how Kendall wore it this week.

The navy double-breasted cotton blazer in the middle is only $80 plus an extra 25% off at checkout and also comes in petite sizes. The navy Italian Wool Blazer at the top right is a pretty good dupe for The Row blazer. It is also available in petite and tall sizes and also has a matching Slim Ankle Pant.

The bottom left Italian Stretch Wool Jacket is not as dark navy as the others. The Classic Stretch-Wool Crepe Blazer on the bottom right is another great dupe for The Row blazer.

In addition to pairing any of these tops with white jeans, you could also wear these navy Wide Legged Wool Pants on the left. Kendall wore Levi’s Original Fit 501 Jeans in NYC. Jennifer wore these black Wool Crepe Wide Leg Pants during her commercial filming with either an Oversized Wool Shirt or black Cotton Buttondown Shirt. It was under the trench so it was hard to tell.

Jennifer wore a white tee and you can never go wrong with a classic white tee shirt. Options I like are the Refined Shrunken Tee Shirt, Organic Cotton Box-Cut Tee, and Supima Cotton Tee Shirt.

I don’t think any of us non-models will be wearing a cropped tee shirt so instead I recommend this navy Supima Cotton Tee Shirt.

A few weeks ago, Jennifer Lawrence wore a blue and white stripped shirt with white collar and cuffs with black capri pants. I love a blue and white shirt for adding some more color to navy and black separates.

The exact shirt Jennifer was wearing is the Striped Cotton Poplin Shirt on the left. If you want something a little different, try the purple and navy Stripped Cotton Poplin shirt in the middle. The Striped Cotton Shirt on the right is on sale right now.

Since I don’t see many people following Jennifer’s lead with the capri pants, even if they were The Row, I recommend swapping them out for Bermuda shorts like Tailored Pleated Shorts on the left or the black Linen Bermuda Shorts on the top right.

If you do want to recreate Kendall’s look, she was wearing the top middle white Cotton Poplin Shorts with the matching Cotton Blend Shirt.

I also like these navy Elastic Waist Bermuda Shorts on the bottom left. I think it would be fun to add something unexpected to the navy pieces likes these chic Sequined Tulle Shorts. It has a matching Sequined Satin T-shirt if you want to have the set.

Jennifer Lawrence has many tan trench coats that I’ve seen her wear so I thought it was interesting that she chose this unexpected olive green Belted Double-breasted Shell Trench Coat. A less expensive option is the olive green Bonded Trench Coat in the middle. The Double Breasted Trench Coat on the right is a great deal at $69.99.

Throwing a sweater over your shoulders add an extra touch to any outfit. Jennifer wore this navy Oversize Crewneck Wool and Cashmere Sweater on the left. The Organic Cotton Crew Sweater in the middle is the same feeling for a much less expensive price. You can get a similar feel with the navy Shaker-Stitch Crewneck Sweater on the right.

On the left are all the exact shoes that Kendall and Jennifer have worn recently and on the right are the better priced dupes.

Top row: Manolo Blahnik Bow-Detailed Suede Mules vs. Ann Mashburn Suede Mules

Second row: The Row Pointed Toe Ballet Flats vs. M.Gemi Esatto Flat

Third row: The Row Crinkled Glossed Leather Loafers vs. Cos Leather Loafers

Bottom row: The Row Bonnie Sneakers vs. Everlane Tread-Bare Sneaker

I was pleasantly surprised to see Kendall Jenner carrying a vintage burgundy Hermès Kelly Box Bag in NYC since I own the exact same vintage Kelly bag. I plan to wear my black Hermes Kelly Box Bag with both black and navy this summer and fall.

Jennifer Lawrence used the Slouchy Banana Small Crossbody Bag with her blue striped shirt and shorts outfit. It would be great for travel this summer.

Jennifer also owns the Margaux Buckled Leather Tote in tan and this chic burgundy color.

Kendall carried The Row Park Three Leather Tote in NYC recently.

Not sure if you can see but Kendall wore a black headband with the stone colored dress in Paris and Jennifer wore one in NYC. If you want to splurge, the Jennifer Behr Silk-Satin Headband is the luxury version. I bought the Leather Like Headband on the right and it does the job. I did have to pick off some glue but I’m excited to wear it this week. I like how it doesn’t go down far and squeeze my head which means it hopefully won’t give me a headache like most headbands.

Kenndall was wearing a very chic gold Cartier Baignoire Watch while Jennifer wore a Longines DolceVita Watch while she filmed a commercial for the brand in NYC.

Kendall tried to hide under a New York Yankees Baseball Hat in the city.

Kendall was wearing hoops but it was hard to see them. Jennifer wore small simple gold hoops which you probably already own. I just bought these Alighieri Wanderlust Gold-Plated Earrings to wear with my new Baroque Pearl Necklace because I thought my pearl drop earrings would be too much with the necklace. I also really like the Alighieri Gold-Plated Hoop Earrings under them.

Kendall wore the burgundy Toteme Slim Trouser Leather Belt which was a little matchy-matchy with the Hermès Kelly Box Bag. I have the Khaite Small Julius Belt on my list for fall.

Jennifer wore the Dior Sunglasses recently but the Ray Ban Sunglasses she wore last week are a lot more reasonably priced.

If you need a dress for a wedding or event this summer, take a page out of Jennifer’s book and make it navy. While filming her commercial, she wore the Draped Front Merino Wool Midi Dress on the left with the black Manolo Blahnik Leather Mules below.

A less expensive option is the navy Cowl back Satin Midi Dress in the middle with the black Suede Mules that are a great dupe for the original.

The navy Jersey Knit Dress is another chic option that you could pair with the Leather Trimmed Suede Sandals below.

Jennifer was wearing plain gold hoops but I love these 14-karat Recycled Gold Amethyst Earrings for something more special. She wore the Longines DolceVita Watch with this outfit. She didn’t carry a bag but I’d pair any of these dresses with this black Leather Clutch.

The makeup artist wouldn’t name any of the products he used on Jennifer on Instagram but I read that she wears Dior Lip Glow Oil so I’d throw that in the clutch for evening.

Hope this post helps you realize how easy it is to mix and match pieces to make endless outfit combinations for work and weekend.

XOXO,
