It’s time for our annual Humidity Proof Hair post and the beginning of Leo season couldn’t be a better time, since Leos like Jennifer Lopez are known for their flowing locks. I actually started this post last week but I had some personal things to clear off my plate first. This post might actually be better timed anyway since we just had the first day of a three-day heatwave. I used most all these products today and came home perfectly coifed so I can attest to their power to combat frizz.

My hair salon, Marie Robinson, uses this Wella Invigo Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner so I started using it too. When I ran out of the shampoo a month ago, I ordered it on Amazon and while it smelled the same, it has a more opaque white color and didn’t make my hair feel as nice. I rarely worry about the quality of products on Amazon so I will probably be more careful in the future. I ordered another bottle from Ulta, it was the right pearly color and made my hair look great again. It adds color protection and shine and leaves my hair feeling clean and bouncy. I order the jumbo size but you can buy the regular size to try it out first.

They also have many other Wella products. I use the Ultimate Repair Shampoo and Conditioner when my hair is feeling like it needs a little extra TLC or on extremely humid days. It’s really been keeping my hair frizz free lately.

I’ve been using Phytodefrisant Blow-dry Balm ever since I read that Jennifer Aniston used it on her hair which might be thirty years ago. I apply it to my wet hair after I get out of the shower.

When I was in London, I went to get a blow out at the Daniel Galvin salon before Wimbledon. Since I just flew in the day before, I thought I wouldn’t really wake up if I didn’t take a shower and get my head wet so I went to the salon with clean wet hair with the Phytodefrisant Blow-dry Balm already applied. I think using these products made a big difference because I noticed that my hair didn’t look as good when I went back and let them wash my hair with their own products.

K18 is getting a lot of buzz because Sofia Richie is a spokesperson but I have not personally tried it yet. My hair is looking so good lately, I’m afraid to mess with my routine. Would love to hear your thoughts if you’ve used it since I don’t normally love leave in conditioner products.

I also didn’t include any deep conditioners this time because they tend to make my hair fluffy. If you know, you know. I want my hair as smooth as possible in the summer so I avoid them in the warmer months.

People swear by this Color Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray Anti-Frizz Treatment. I tried it before and hated how it made my hair feel. I like my hair to feel clean and not coated. I’m including it because if I don’t, I’ll be fielding messages about it all day.

I have the Dyson Supersonic Professional edition Hair Dryer. To be completely honest, I can’t remember what the difference is between this one and the regular version but it was enough to make me purchase the professional one. I know someone is going to say they just throw your hair up in a bun on humid days but that doesn’t always work if you have an event or need to go to a meeting or the office. The key is to blow dry your hair in sections and rough dry before you pull it smooth with a brush. You should also hit it with the cool shot button to smooth the cuticle down at the end too.

The other key to a good blow out is using a natural bristle brush like this large round brush. As my stylist just told me, a metal barrel brush is very damaging.

After I blow dry my hair but before iron it, I use the Augustinus Bader Hair Oil about which I can’t say enough good things. Rub it between your hands and start on the ends and underneath and back before you get to the front so you don’t put too much on. At the end, I pull my hair back like I’m going to put it in a ponytail and smooth down the front and make sure I get product all the way to the ends. Start with a little and you can add a little more. The good thing is that when I used to apply too much to the front, it mostly just made it look shinier and not totally greasy like other products.

I splurged on the Dyson Corrale Style Straightener this year and I am very happy with how it smooths my hair without damage. The beeping, on the other hand, makes me want to throw it out the window. Obviously, a man designed this with the beeping because no woman would ever do this to another woman. You can turn them off but every time I think I’ve turned them off, I still hear them. I hope they redesign this without them because it really is amazing. The stupid charging cord always pops off too so why didn’t they design one where you could swap out different charging cords for different countries?! I feel lIke I need to start consulting for Dyson. It’s supposed to keep a charge for a half hour when it’s unplugged.

When I travel, I take the CHI Original Ceramic Hair Straightening Flat Iron.

I don’t always use the Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade but it’s great for smoothing the little pieces around my hairline and when I pull it up in a ponytail. A little goes a long way! This one will make your hair look greasy so just use a tiny amount to start.

I really love the Christophe Robin Intense Regenerating Balm with Rare Prickly Pear Oil. It’s a waxy pomade that you have to warm up with your fingers when it’s cold. This is also great around the hairline and when you pull your hair up or back to smooth down the flyaways. He supposedly created it to use on his client Catherine Deneuve and that was all I needed to hear.

I found this Phytodefrisant Anti-frizz Touch-up Care at The French Pharmacy in London and had to give it a try. Less is more with this too but it has a little brush on the end so it’s great for smoothing down flyaways when your hair is pulled back. Not sure I’d use it when my hair is down.

I dream of having Serge Normant do my hair. Until that day, I make due with his haircare line. Every product is great but I love the Serge Normant Meta Sheer Finishing Hair Oil. I will spray it on my brush and then run it through my hair when it needs a little extra smoothing when I leave it down.

Because I work from home, I will often put my hair in velcro rollers and leave them in for 15-30 minutes but sometimes longer if I have more time. They are great for adding volume and especially great when you want volume for a ponytail.

If you really want to protect your hair from frizz for an event, I highly recommend trying to do your hair as early as possible so it can cure in the air conditioning. It allows the cuticle to close up and stay smooth longer.

The gold standard has been Oribe Imperméable Anti-Humidity Spray which is good but the L’Oreal Top Coat Tecni Art Fix Anti-Frizz Spray that the stylist used on my hair in London is even better. It works without being heavy or sticky.

If you don’t want to wash your hair, you need a Shower Cap with a terrycloth lining since it helps protect your hair from the steam so it doesn’t frizz up.

If you’ve gone too many days without washing your hair or used too many products, the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt is amazing. I use it followed by a little wash with my regular shampoo followed by my usual conditioner.

When you pull your hair back, the Mason Pearson Pure Bristle Brush will smooth your hair perfectly. The natural bristles allow the brush to evenly distribute natural oil all along your hair. It’s expensive but you will have it forever.

This is definitely the year of the headband. It literally makes you looked pulled together. The padded headband looks similar to the one Jennifer Lawrence has been wearing but at a much better price. The wide tortoise headband will allow you to live out your Carolyn Bessette Kennedy style dreams. The black padded headband on the right looks like actual the one Jennifer Lawrence was wearing based on the gold logo on hers and this one. I like a headband with hair when it’s down and also when it’s pulled back in a ponytail or low bun.

Match your hair color and upgrade your ponytail with these tortoise barrettes.

Add a little pizzazz to an updo with this Crystal-Embellished Bobby Pin or a few of them.

My toxic trait is that I use cheap hair ties from the drugstore but this set of six skinny silk hair ties would probably be better for your hair.

Wishing you good hair days!

XOXO,

HC
