Outfit Inspiration from Carolyn Bessette Kennedy: 2023 Edition
by habituallychic
01 . 29 . 23From what I’ve read on Instagram, I am not the only one who had a hard time getting motivated this January. I think we can blame it Mercury retrograde and Mars retrograde but now that that’s behind us, it’s time to get back on track. For my first women’s fashion post of the new year, I went back to the archives for inspiration. Carolyn Bessette Kennedy has a look that is still in style today while. Stockholm based fashion stylist Linn Hägglund is wearing the updated version. I’ve used them as a jumping off point for five new outfits that are the perfect for transitioning from winter to spring.
You obviously can’t go wrong with black paired with jeans.
For each outfit, I’ve chosen three coat options in different price points so there is something for everyone. The first is a black Wool Bouclé Coat that has a great texture. The middle black Double-breasted Woven Coat is unlined so it’s good for temperate climates and the transition to spring. The black Metallic Buttoned Coat was already a great deal but now it’s on sale so get it before it’s gone.
You can’t go wrong with this $75 Cashmere Sweater in black or any of the other many colors in which it’s available.
It’s a good time to start thinking about getting some new jeans for spring like these chic Le Super High High-rise Straight Leg Jeans.
It looks like Carolyn is wearing loafers which is why I chose these black Gucci Loafers. You can try these Black Loafers as a less expensive option.
If you are going back to the office, this black Large Leather Tote is a great option while this Medium Textured Leather Tote is the less expensive option that’s just as stylish.
I’ve still been wearing my gold link necklaces with sweaters this winter and this Gold Link Necklace is currently 40% off.
One of the celebrity makeup artists used a lot of Chanel products for Michelle Williams which made me order this Le Blanc Cream Healthy Light Creator which is a powerful yet soothing hydrating cream for day and night.
I had to include a grey option since it’s my color of choice for winter and the transition to spring.
The grey Wool Blend Coat on the left has a subtle print to give a little something extra and it’s on sale. The pale grey Wool Coat in the middle in perfect for when the weather starts to warm up and it’s on sale as well. The charcoal grey Double Breasted Coat on the right is very chic and on sale right now. The upper pockets are great for keeping your hands warm when you are wearing a crossbody bag too.
I really love the $75 Cashmere Sweater in charcoal too.
These Slim Straight Jeans are available in regular, petite, and tall sizes.
I don’t really need any new shoes for spring but if I did, I would order these Patent Leather Mary Jane Ballet Flats in a heartbeat.
I love the color of this Medium Leather Tote with charcoal grey.
You know I love a pearl drop earring and these 14-karat gold diamond and pearl hoop earrings are perfect.
I just started using this Ouai Detox Shampoo and it cleans all the products out of my hair without drying it out. I follow it up with the Thick Hair Conditioner and use the Thick Hair Shampoo when I don’t feel the need for the Detox Shampoo.
I prefer to wear navy on bright sunny days instead of black.
I love a simple navy Wool Coat like the one on the left for spring. The middle Cashmere Blend Blanket Coat looks like a cozy option for chilly days. The Tailored Wool Coat on the right is also available in black and camel and is very size inclusive.
A lot of women are wearing this Men’s Cashmere Crewneck Sweater this winter. There are a lot of ways to see what size you wear in the men’s sweater so you should check them before ordering.
I love a higher waist in jeans like these Pinch Waist High Rise Straight Leg Organic Jeans.
When the sun is shining and the weather is milder, these yellow Satin Ballet Flats. They come in other colors too.
It might be time to play tennis outside soon but in the meantime, you can carry this Tennis Bag to the inside courts.
You could either wear your Apple Watch or upgrade to this Reverso Classic Stainless Steel and Alligator Watch.
I don’t go in the sun without sunscreen but yet I still keep getting hyperpigmentation so I’m convinced it’s from the blue light of my computer and phone. That’s why I just bought Dr. Barbara Sturm Anti-Pollution Drops that are supposed to protect skin from environmental stressors and even blue light radiation emitted from computers and phones.
You can’t post about coats without including camel.
This first Wool Coat is a great shade of camel. But not everyone looks good in camel so I’d also suggest the Wool Coat in the middle which is a more oatmeal shade. I actually prefer a taupe shade like the Wool Coat on the right for my coloring.
The $75 Cashmere Sweater comes in camel and oatmeal to choose the shade that works best for you.
Since J.Crew doesn’t make curvy jeans anymore, I’d try these Madewell Curvy Roadtripper Skinny Jeans instead.
These Perforated Suede Flats are such a great deal, you can get them in the blue color.
I love this petrol colored Large Woven Leather Tote instead of the usual tan but it’s also available in burgundy if you want a more neutral color.
You can never go wrong with simple Gold Hoop Earrings.
I loved the La Prairie Skin Caviar Nighttime Oil but it was very expensive so I decided to try this Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil which is a fifth of the price. I can honestly say this is my new hero product and I’m so glad I bought it because I saw results from night one. I didn’t use any other product on top because I wanted to make sure if my skin had a reaction I would know it was from this product. My skin looked so amazing in the morning that I always use it with just an eye cream every evening. It is a dark blue color that becomes clear when you rub it in but be careful not to get it on your clothes because I’m not sure if it stains.
I decided to put together one wildcard outfit too.
The first Double Breasted Wool Blend Gabardine Coat is a great transitional coat. The middle Toteme Leather Trimmed Shearling Jacket is something Carolyn would wear today if she was still with us. I also included the Hooded Paneled Shearling Coat because I thought it looked incredibly chic.
This Fair Isle Turtleneck is for when it’s still cold or for your après ski look.
Try these Distressed High Rise Straight Leg Jeans if you are over skinny styles.
These Leather Point Toe Flats are another pair of shoes I’d buy if I need a tan flat for spring.
If you buy this Suede Bucket Bag on sale, you can splurge on other things.
I’m on the hunt for a new ring and this Set of Three Stacking Rings is definitely on my list.
This Westman Atelier Face Trace Contour Stick in Biscuit is great for a adding a little color to pale winter skin.
Happy Shopping!
XOXO,
