Heyward-Washington House Dining Room
by habituallychic
01 . 11 . 21I’ve been struggling with posts lately since I can’t travel and there are only a few places I can visit in New York. It’s hard to keep going when inspiration is in short supply, especially for design posts. So I’ve decided to go through my camera roll and try to post some historic houses from my previous trips. But instead of stressing myself out trying to narrow down hundreds of photos down to a manageable amount for a full house overview post, I’ve decided to break them down into smaller posts.
For this post, I’m highlighting the beautiful dining room of the Heyward-Washington House in Charleston, South Carolina that I visited during my birthday trip in April 2019. The house was built in 1772 and was home to Thomas Heyward, Jr., a signer of the United States Declaration of Independence, and was the house the city rented for George Washington when visited Charleston in 1791.
It’s one of my favorite historic rooms due to the color combination of pale blue grey woodwork and peachy coral walls. It’s also filled with historic furniture including a Charleston dining table and South Carolina sugar chest in the corner. When I finally have a dining room, this will be my inspiration.
