What I Bought for Spring 2019

Although we’re not completely out of the winter woods yet, the warmer and sunnier weather this week has everyone excited for spring. I’ve been getting my wardrobe ready for the change of season so I thought I’d share a few of my finds with you. It’s also a good time to go through your closet and see if anything needs repaired, altered, or dry-cleaned before spring. Do your spring and summer shoes and sandals need to be resoled or polished up before you can wear them again?  Is there anything you can donate to charity to make room for new pieces?  Do you need to refold everything in your drawers to make Marie Kondo proud?  You get the idea.

The hardest part of sharing what I buy myself is that some things sell out before I even get a chance to tell you about them. That was the case with a coat that went on sale and this Christie Jacket I bought in navy. It’s still available in other colors and patterns that are ideal for spring  transitional weather.

I know what looks good on me and that’s usually a midi length dress with a defined waist. Bonus points for dresses with a band collar so my hair won’t get caught in it like this ruffled floral-print silk-chiffon midi dress. The sleeves are a little long so I’ll be taking it to my tailor but you could also roll them up.

I really like the new JW Anderson Uniqlo Collection that just launched last week. I bought a few things including this Reversible Tote Bag in navy and white stripes.

I also bought this JW Anderson Uniqlo Gathered Long Sleeve Dress in Navy. It has a band collar and midi length and pockets which make it perfect. I won’t tie it at the neck and the tie can actually be removed which I will probably do. When this dress and the one below arrived, they ran rather large so I just reordered them in one size down. I think the navy version can probably be worn without a belt in the smaller size but I also bought thin new belts on sale at J.Crew if I want to give it more shape.

I know someone is going to send me a nasty message asking me why I am buying prairie dresses like this JW Anderson Gathered Long Sleeve Dress in Paisley Blue but they really do look chic when belted. If you don’t believe me, check out the Instagram account of British Vogue Beauty Editor Jessica Diner who is the patron saint of belted patterned midi dresses.

I didn’t buy these Flower Suede Heeled Sandals yet but they would be perfect paired with any spring or summer dress.
I’ve never met a blue shirt I didn’t like and that extends to this blue Tomboy Shirt. I like Sezane shirts and blouses since the cut their sleeves narrower than American brands and the cuffs are tighter too. I think this makes them more flattering. I also bought another blouse and an embroidered tank that already sold out.

I decided to branch out from my love of grey cashmere sweaters by adding this pale pink Soft Cotton Crew to my closet. I’ll pair it with jeans and midi skirts.

I pictured myself wearing this top-stitched midi skirt in stretch linen on Nantucket or in the Hamptons this summer. Unfortunately, it runs very small and had to be returned. If you decide to order, I would order two sizes larger than your regular size.

I’m always on the look out for chic European style sneakers for travel and long walks in New York. I just happened to spy these Johnston & Murphy Jules Sneakers in a magazine I was about to recycle. I didn’t even know Johnston & Murphy made women’s shoes but I ordered them in three colors since they were on sale. They arrived today and the fit and style are perfect.

I’m still waiting to wear this lavender ruffle classic popover shirt in clip dot but I might be able to pull it out tomorrow when it warms up to 64 degrees.

I already own these high-rise Cameron pant in four-season stretch in multiple colors but they are perfect for spring. If you hem them to ankle length, they can be worn with heels, flats, or chic sneakers making them incredibly versatile.

As soon as I saw the new fall 2019 Celine collection, I realized that everything was based on designs in the archives. That meant that many of the pieces including the bags look exactly like the vintage versions. I ordered this vintage navy Celine cross body bag for a great price from Vestiaire Collective. It hasn’t arrived from Europe yet but I already know I’m going to love it.

I also ordered this Printed Ruffle Bib Midi Dress for spring. I love the puff shoulder and very tight cuffs on the sleeves. It’s incredibly long so I’m having my tailor shorten it. I have a version of this dress from last year and I cut the ruffle off that dress. I haven’t decided if I’ll do that on this one yet. It’s also available in a floral print that would be pretty for spring events and Easter.

I already own these Patent Block Heel Sandals and they are available again this year. They are insanely comfortable and a great alternative to a very expensive similar looking sandal. They are also available in black suede and higher heel versions.

I haven’t worn my new Mounser gold-plated pearl bracelet this winter but it’s going to be perfect with all my new dresses.

Cuyana updated my favorite Ivory Silk Wrap Blouse. The new version doesn’t have the pleats at the bottom that would never lie flat so now it’s absolutely perfect. I do recommend pinning the top since the little snaps will come undone if you move the wrong way.

My favorite wash in these curvy toothpick jeans is no longer available so I decided to buy a pair in black. I like to wear black on rainy or grey days but not on bright sunny days when you can yell if your blacks don’t match. The exception is a black dress with a hint of a tan and sandals on a beautiful day.

Speaking of sandals, I bought these Suede & Fur Ankle-Wrap Sandals for my trip to Miami when I saw the weather was going to be cold. They are very chic and comfortable. I recommended them to a friend and she said the same thing. They’re still on sale right now and also come in a plain suede version in black and tan that are even more discounted. If you’re on the fence about size, I’d buy a half size larger than your normal size.

You can’t wear this item I bought but I thought I’d share it here too. I am very careful not to use non-stick pans because of the chemicals that can leach into your food but I was also tired of some foods sticking to my pans. That’s why I was very excited to find this safe and non-toxic ceramic Greenpan Nonstick Cookware 2-Piece Fry Pan Set in light blue. A 10-Piece Cookware Set is also available. I’ve used them for a week so far and they’re great.

Happy Spring Shopping!

XOXO,
