Transitional Outfit for August

I’ve had a lot of requests for more flat lay outfit posts and I’m going to try to comply. Sometimes things I buy sell out quickly which makes it hard but luckily most of the latest things I’ve purchased are still available. I’m also trying to think about how to transition some pieces to fall. While it can stay warm in New York through October, you can’t wear a white dresses and other summery staples in autumn but neutrals like these can be worn much longer.
Cable Knit Cashmere Sweater – For those of you who work in arctic air conditioned offices in the summer, you could wear a tank top or tee shirt to work and then throw on this sweater. It could then be worn all day as the weather cools off. My exact cable knit cashmere sweater is sold out but the other one has more colors and it’s 40% off right now. It’s insanely soft and I can already tell it’s going to be worn often.
Linen Blend Tie Waist Skirt – This winter white/ivory skirt is a new favorite. You can wear it with the belt if you tuck in a top or without if you wear a sweater out like this one. It goes with everything and I wish it came in other colors because it’s such a good wardrobe staple. I bought the regular size to wear it long but it’s also available in petite sizes. Oh, and it also has pockets!
Patent Leather Block Heel Sandals – These are another staple that I own in every color because of the comfortable heel height. The neutral tan is great for summer and early autumn. If you prefer a higher heel, I love the toffee colored Suede Block Heel Sandals.
Woven Leather Tote – I love a big tote bag for daily life in New York and for travel and this one is beyond chic. It’s a bag that will get better with age and one that you will use forever.
Silk Linen Color Block Scarf – I would wear this more often tied on the bag than around my neck but it looked better styled there for the photos. But I do usually keep a scarf in my bag when I travel and this one would be great to wrap around your neck for a chilly plane or train in the summer.
Hermes H Heure Watch – I’ve had this watch for almost as long as I’ve lived in New York. They now make the bands so you easily switch them out if you want to change color but I always stick with blue. It adds a nice pop of color to neutral outfits.
Bunny Mellon: The Life of an American Style Icon – I’m about half way through now and I’m really enjoying this book. Everyone reveres Bunny Mellon as a style icon but now I’m learning why. It’s an easy and fascinating read.
La Mer Reparative Face Sun Lotion Broad Spectrum SPF 30 – Whether it’s the height of summer or later in the year, you always need to wear SPF. I love this one for every day use because it feels more like a luxurious lotion than a white sticky sunscreen.
Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish in Naked – There comes a point in August when I start to hate color which includes my red toe nail polish. That’s when I switch to this perfect neutral color as I transition to more neutral fashions. I also always wear Deborah Lippmann Baby Love on my hands for a classic manicure.
Hopefully, I won’t wait as long for my next flat lay post to keep you all happy.
XOXO,
HC
