What I’ve Bought Recently: Dress Edition
If I could, I would wear jeans, a blouse or sweater, and flats all year long. Unfortunately, you can’t wear jeans in New York when it’s hazy, hot, and humid so I live in dresses all summer. I’ve had a hard time finding new options lately but got lucky with three new purchases this week that I thought I would share.
I wanted to buy the navy Thomas Mason for J.Crew Shirtdress above but it sold out online quickly. I was able to find it in the Upper East Side store earlier in the week. It looks like something a chic Italian would wear to walk around Rome in the summer. It runs very big so I sized down two sizes. It also looks great with a few buttons undone at the top and the bottom. I might also try it with a different belt. This one will transition perfectly to the fall too.
I used to buy a lot more dresses from Club Monaco but I haven’t found any I loved this year until yesterday. I saw this green and white Xabrina Striped Shirtdress online and knew it would be perfect so I went down to the Flatiron store to pick it up. The green and white stripes are a great alternative to ubiquitous blue and white stripes.
This is a detail of the open back which is nice in the summer. I will probably have my tailor sew up the side slits though. They seem like a bit much with the open back.
After Club Monaco, I stopped in The White Company. They are having a big sale right now and I picked up my favorite nightgown for half off. (It’s not online so I can’t link to it.) I also spotted the Ivory Drawstring Waist Dress above that I thought would be perfect for my upcoming trip to Napa. I tied the drawstring tighter on my waist so it fits a little different than in the photo and doesn’t look as long. I also sized down one size.
