Chic Reads: My Paris Dream

Writer Kate Betts and I have bonded over all things French and she was kind enough to send me a copy of her new book My Paris Dream: An Education in Style, Slang, and Seduction in the Great City on the Seine.
It’s funny to be reading it exactly a year to the date I moved to Paris to follow my own dream of living in the City of Light. It’s even funnier that despite the fact that our trips were 28 years apart, not much changed. Of course, the unchanging nature of Paris is what makes it so comforting when you visit year after year. You’re prepared for rude taxi drivers, manifestations and protests, and everything closed on Sundays. The difference between us though is that Kate stayed and worked for years instead of three months.
My first introduction to Kate Betts was during her time as an editor of Vogue and later as editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar. Her first covers for the magazine were some of the chicest I’ve ever seen and I regret throwing them out when I moved from Boston to New York. It’s her time before this period when she got her first big break working for Fairchild that I look forward to reading about most.
If you’ve ever dreamed of living in Paris, My Paris Dream is the book for you.
Bon week-end !
