Chic in Paris: Comptoir de L’Image
by habituallychic
06 . 05 . 14The weather was absolutely beautiful in Paris today so I decided to explore Le Marais. During my walk, I stopped by the holy grail of bookstores, Comptoir de L’Image. The petite space is packed with vintage books and magazines from every decade. It is popular with fashion designers like Marc Jacobs and every blogger known to man. I spied many books on my wish list but it was a rare book, Charlotte Rampling: With Compliments from 1986 that won me over. While it wasn’t cheap, it was certainly less expensive than the other copies I saw offered online after I got home. Apparently Charlotte Rampling curated the photos in the book from heavyweights such as Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh, Jean-Loop Sieff, and even movie stills from her work with Luchino Visconti.
I asked the owner Michel Fink, who could not be nicer and speaks English, if he could remember where all the books were located in the store. He admitted that it’s getting hard. Be prepared to take your time and savor the treasures that are waiting to be discovered.

I may have to go back for the Ron Galella book and the Truman Capote one too.
Owner Michel Fink who will probably kill me for posting his photo.
The Serge Gainsbourg book also caught my eye.
My favorite thing I’ve purchased in Paris so far.

Hi Heather,
I will definitely put this shop on my Paris list for next year. I named my youngest daughter Charlotte, partly with Ms. Rampling in mind so you know that I enjoyed this post.

Could spend a fortune in that shop.
I could spend a bloody fortune in that shop. Love.
Thanks for the heads up! I am adding Comptoir de L’Image to my list for my next visit.

Wow, what a place to go digging for keepsakes! Thank you for sharing! I loved it!
Ah yes. this kind gentleman is a miracle worker.
Even though he really only sells photography books he went out of his way to help me track down a copy of Pierre Le-Tan’s “Album” book which up until that time I’d already been on a two year search for it!
Heaven!

Wow, I think I could just hang out in that shop all day and be perfectly happy! I’d certainly heard of the store but have never gotten a chance to go inside on my previous trips, so thanks for sharing photos! Have a beautiful day, Heather! xo
Thank you for making my summer…As so many things change I am falling back onto places and things in the past that are comforting and make me happy. I look forward to your posts …daily. Second best than being there…even the most mundane is sublime…ignore your critics

Thanks Heather for this post ! I bought the Ron Galella at a good price…I was looking for this out of print book but the prices online were higher…
Enjoy your stay in Paris and thanks for your great blog (one of my favorite).
Thanks for this post Heather since I bought the out of print Ron Galella book I was looking for ! It was cheaper than the ones sold online and in mint condition.
