Au Revoir!
by habituallychic
05 . 14 . 14I know I’ve been slacking on the posts this week but I swear you have a longer post tomorrow. This week has just been busy with packing and trying to see friends before my departure so thank you for your patience. I’m off to the airport in less than an hour and I can’t believe my summer in Paris is about to begin!
There have been some questions that I want to address before I take off. A few people were under the impression that I won’t be posting from Paris. Of course I will be posting! There will be a million things to write about and I will definitely bringing you lots of chic people, places, and things from France as well as Europe. I hope you will bear with me though as I get settled and figure out a schedule.
Everyone wants to know if I’ve found an apartment. I will be staying with my friend Eleanor and her family n the 1st right beside the Palais Royal for the first two weeks while I look for an apartment. While I didn’t name her in the post, Eleanor is my friend with ALS I mentioned in my Kindness post. She moved to Paris with her French husband and daughter and I look forward to spending time with her. I swear she does more in Paris than most able bodied people and has an amazing spirit!
What I didn’t mention in my Next Chapter post is that sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone to grow. While I know I’m not joining the Peace Corps and moving to a third world country, there is a difference between visiting Paris as a tourist for a week or two and moving for four months. I’m excited to see what this summer holds and I’m excited to bring you along for the ride!
Bisous,
HC

Congratulations, Heather! So happy I can live vicariously through your adventures. I can’t believe in your more recent post that you said you can tell who really reads your blog vs. just looks at pictures – I actually read your blog FOR YOUR WRITING – I wish there was even more of it! Love your voice and down to earth perspective. Can’t wait to hear all about your summer. Keep up the posting!
Bonne chance!!!
So jealous ! Looking forward to all the great posts.
I was there last summer visiting friends who lived next to the Luxembourg gardens. So beautiful in the summer!
Enjoy!!
Heather I am excited for you on this amazing adventure and cannot wait to hear more!

Heather – Have a great time. Many years ago, I had a friend who was stationed in Paris and I visited him 7 times in 4 years. Living in an apartment is soooo different. I loved wandering the local Franprix picking things for dinner. All food sounds better in French. And having the choice to plan your day based on the weather. Will it rain? Museum. Sunny? outdoors or a trip Don’t miss Honfleur and Etretat. Just a day trip away. You will not want to come back. I had to, sob!
Have a safe journey, and relish every moment! I envy and admire your courage to make a big change. What a great adventure.
Bon Voyage! Have a wonderful time and enjoy votre été comme une vraie parisienne! After all the craziness of packing/getting ready for take off & jet lag recovery – enjoy some down time…plop down in a chair in the Tuileries or Luxembourg Gardens and pull up another for your feet (!), close you eyes, soak up the sunshine and take it all in…the beautifully manicured gardens before you, the gorgeous architecture that surrounds you, the sound of children laughing/chattering in French while running here/there/everywhere, the sound of people strolling along the sandy/gravel paths, the splashing fountains….ahhhh! Enjoy turning the page to this next chapter in France!
Hey Heather:
Have a great & safe trip! I look forward to all your post. Like the first comment – will be living vicariously through you!

Just read your post on kindness…will said!
Heather- Have a wonderful journey. I am very excited for you. You are spreading your wings as a woman , and as a single woman. Write it Down, Make It Happen. You are doing it. Just think about how much more intriguing a woman you will become. Is this even possible?! N’est-ce pas ?
Hava a great time. My daughter spent 9 months there last year teaching English. She had an amazing, transformative experience. I hope you will write about both the “ups” and the “downs” while you are there. And, for me, it’s all about Beaune for a wonderful weekend!
Heather, good luck and best wishes in your new adventure. I started reading your blog seven years ago. You immediately inspired me to look at things in a different way. Because of that inspiration, I have become (I think) a much more creative person. I look forward to all your posts, they are the first thing I read every morning. I’ve watched movies you’ve recommended, read books you’ve spent the time to review. It goes without saying as soon as your book became available for sale I bought it. I’ve also enjoyed learning about Jeremiah Goodman, whose work has brought me great joy along with watching a wonderful, documentary about Bill Cunningham you also spoke about. I look forward to reading your posts from Paris. I live in a very rural area in Wisconsin and I am an accountant. My world was pretty small before your blog came into it. Thank you for broadening my mind and for providing such a wonderful blog online. Safe travels and good health!
Kim
You inspire! I hope to have an extended stay in Paris one day…thanks to you…otherwise I would never have thought it possible.

I was looking forward to reading about your adventures and thought you had taken a break from blogging before you left. Checked into your site directly and learned I’ve just stopped receiving your e-mails from Feedburner. Same thing has happened with another blog I’ve been reading for years; I’m shown as a subscriber, but am no longer receiving the e-mails. I unsubscribed and resubscribed and still nothing happens. This might be happening to your other subscribers, too, and there is no recourse through Feedburner.
I found your blog this morning as I was contemplating what to pack for our June trip to Paris.
Finally I have a clear picture of what to take! I love your blog and can’t wait to delve a little deaper into it. We are staying at an apartment in the 9th arrondissement that I found on Frenchyrentals.com.
-Safe travels –
We Love your blog 🙂
I look forward to reading your posts from Paris – I admire you for embarking on such an adventure. Paris is a beautiful city but you’re right – it’s different to visit as a tourist and to live there. Good luck – your photography is amazing.
Bon voyage, Heather. I hope you have the time of your life and I look forward to all your beautiful posts.
Your faithful reader,
Elizabeth
Heather, I am a Midwest interior designer. Design resources are very limited in my city. Because of you, I too get up every day to learn about art, people, designers and fashion. Because of you I can learn and experience exciting New York and now Paris. Thank you!!!!
