Chateau Chic
by habituallychic
04 . 06 . 14I’ve been having a lot of conversations about chateaux in relationship to my upcoming trip. Seems I’m not the only one who dreams of buying a fixer upper in France. When that time comes (after I win the lottery) the first person I will call for advice is designer Timothy Corrigan. He purchased his 18th-century estate in the Loire Valley, Chateau du Grand-Lucé, from the government and thus dealt with the bureaucracy that accompanied it. Although, I’ve heard many stories of the difficulties of getting anything done in France, I am impressed by the French resolve to protect their historic sites. You can read more here and the entire story in Timothy’s book An Invitation to Chateau du Grand-Lucé: Decorating a Great French Country House Even if your home is on a more modest scale, you can still be inspired by the beautiful colors and fabrics chosen for each room including the 14 bedrooms, including the ground floor master suite. And if owning a chateau if out of your budget, it can be rented out for stays and events here including weddings. Now wouldn’t that be chic?

To purchase a chateau isn’t as expensive as one might think. A ten bedroom chateau with outbuildings and acres of land can cost as much as a one bedroom condo in Manhattan. However, the running costs and the taxes are the obstacle…
Breathtaking. Mr. Corrigan’s renovation and design is very respectful of the chateaux’s history and architecture, but the interiors have a fresh, edited (American?) look to them. The spaces are grand but also look very comfortable and inviting.
What a gorgeous Chateau! I especially love the bedrooms, I’d definitely feel like a princess sleeping in one of those beds!
The chateau is absolutely stunning and so is the interior design. I loved every single picture apart from the first one and some bedroom pictures… france is such a dream place to be and I would absolutely love to have my home there – i would fight any bureaucracy for that.

Cannot get enough of CdGL and falling in love anew with the dining room color, whose rosy warm reflection would be flattering to all. And would you believe Tim’s brother Michael is the seminarian at our St Mark’s in the Valley in little ol’ Los Olivos, Calif.?!
Oh gosh, this is stunning! I saw this a few weeks ago on Susanna Salk’s Quintessence Youtube channel. Timothy actually gives a tour of this chateau. I enjoyed it very much! Thank you for sharing!

spell-bindingly breath-taking. How is it possible to create such beauty on such a scale today?
