Habitually Chic Update
by habituallychic
09 . 30 . 13Sorry for the radio silence for the last few days. I was finishing up my keynote address before I left for Cleveland and didn’t have much downtime to post while I was away. I want to thank everyone who came to hear me speak at the Ohio Design Center and bought books at the signing. It was lovely meeting you all! I especially want to thank Amber Gallihar of Lief Karson for showing me all around Cleveland. I fell in love with all the homes in Shaker Heights including the famous Van Sweringen house above. Of course the beautiful autumn weather didn’t hurt either. It was funny how many people told me they grew up in Shaker Heights after I started posting photos on Instagram. The residents seem to be as chic as the houses.
Since I was over that way, I decided to puddle jump down to Pittsburgh to spend the weekend with my family. Sometimes after six years of blogging, a little break is needed to recharge our chic batteries. Thank for understanding!
Lake Erie looking lovely on Friday.
The trees were already starting to turn in Cleveland.
Pink sunset behind my house Friday night.
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Visiting a pumpkin patch in Ligonier.
Falling leaves in Ligonier.
Before heading to the airport on Sunday, we visited Henry Clay Frick’s home Clayton in Pittsburgh. My father would be upset if I didn’t mention he is fourth cousins with the steel magnate.
The Greenhouse at Clayton used to supply flowers to all the other Frick homes including the one on Fifth Avenue in New York.
The Car and Carriage Museum at Clayton was a chic treat.

I like that…chic treat. It’s clever. You should start a regular weekly post with a chic treat. 🙂
You have just listed all of my favorite things to do in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, having been a Cleveland native all of my life — now living in Pittsburgh. I remember driving down Shaker Boulevard every morning in the summer time to go to skating practice at the Cleveland Skating Club and just drooling over all of the houses. Living on campus at John Carroll was one of the best decisions I ever made because of the area that surrounds University Heights. So pretty in the fall time. Glad you enjoyed two of my favorite cities!
No apologies needed Heather. The fact that you were with family and friends is a well earned disconnect! I must admit to missing
your blog even more..Welcome back!
Wow! When I was very young I lived just minutes away from the Van Sweringen house and we would always ride by on our bikes. And I spent most of my childhood years living in Ligonier, PA! It was fun to see your photos of my old haunts.
Thanks for the shout out, Heather! Loved having you here in Cleveland 🙂
All the best.
