Neutrality

I challenged myself to wear more color this summer because that’s what every magazine and fashion blogger was touting.  The problem was that every time I did wear color, I wished I was wearing neutrals.  Sometimes you just have to stick with what works for you whether it’s fashion or decor related.  I’ve described my decorating style as “classic with a twist” and from now on, I’m going to use the phrase to describe my wardrobe.  And if it was good enough for Elsie, it’s good enough for me.

“It’s my color – beige!” – Elsie de Wolfe

Love these images and love that you refuse to change just because color is all the rage at the moment. Yayy for being true to yourself!

cream has always been my favorite non-color color

I find myself drawn to trends but always end up falling back into the classic style that suits me. This is a gorgeous collection of images – great inspiration. Thank you. Jx

I completely agree (neutrals are strong and classic). Great photos. Great post.

Fashion is fashion…sometimes it’s like trying to squeeze a square peg in a round hole. Style is something altogether different. You’re right…Elsie knew. ( great assortement of images).

I did too and learned the hard way as I’ve barely worn my new coloured items, I love white, dove grey, navy and beige, all of the images above are sublime.

I adore parquet floors! I wish I had them in my house. One day I have promised myself I will. Beautiful photos, set me up for the day. Thank you.

So agree. My friend next door felt she had to be more groovy so got herself some Designer Guild cushions and fabrics for her interior which were super bright. Now I love Designer Guild and so does she but she said in the end she just had to get rid of it as it was so in your face she could not really live with it!

I think it was Shakespeare who said it best. The gift of knowing yourself and being true to that knowledge is the French definition of style. It has taken me a long time to have that level of courage. Wonderful images. Have a super day. Mary

As an artist I love color. I also have a closet of neutrals; yet must add a punch of something bright or bold with it….

Fabulous post–one of your best!! Stunning photos! I, too, am a “beige” girl (as my friends like to call me, although any neutral is wonderful), have been my whole life.
How can you go wrong–even Paris is beige!!

Your post made me smile — it’s the same thing for me and boot-cut jeans. (Pencil-legs are in…straight-cut legs are in, etc.) But I realize I just look and feel better in boot-cut jeans as a pear-shaped girl. I may not be “trendy”, but at least I feel good about what I am wearing! Viva la beige!

neutrals are beautiful! But I’m the opposite to you – I can’t not wear colour 🙂

A great post! We have to learn what colours suit us and stick to it. I LOVE the neutral shades I see on other women, but I just fade away if I wear it…I look great in white and strong colours like navy and red! Each to their own…Have a great weekend! Sharon 🙂

I always try to do color and end up wishing I had just stuck with my neutrals! They are definitely what I love and feel most at home with. Nice post.

I think your photos show wonderfully how important a contrast is when using a neutral colour set.

It doesn’t have to be a stark contrast, maybe a contrast of textures and effect too!

I think your photos show wonderfully how important it is to achieve a contrast when using a neutral colour set.

A contrast doesn’t have to be stark ,it can be as simple as a change in texture, but without it neutral can be a tad dull!

    Great photos!

    (I might have commented twice!)
