Gone to Print
by habituallychic
06 . 19 . 12Speaking of books, my book, Creativity at Work, went to print yesterday! Hooray! It’s been more than a year in the works and I can’t believe it’s finally out of my hands. It will be published on November 6, 2012 and I will definitely keep you posted on book signings and other events.
It was actually March 2011 when I first met with powerHouse Books and the process of making a book has been a long one. I wouldn’t say that it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done but there was definitely a learning curve. The blog is very immediate so it took a while to get used to a project that seemed to take forever. Above is a look at the cover linen samples, foil stamping options, and color proofs, just part of what goes into finishing a book.
I know a lot of you are interested in how to get published so if you have any questions, please leave them in a comment or email me. I’ll be interviewing my editor Wes Del Val about what publishers are looking for and how to navigate the publishing process. Not every blog can be translated into a book and original content is just one of the keys I learned along the way.
Now that the book is off my plate, I look forward to getting caught up on emails and blog posts and starting some fun new projects. But first, I’m taking a little time off to relax. If anyone has an island they want me to visit, I’m completely amenable to that idea.
Thanks!
HC

yayy congrats, Heather! As a book editor I see tons of blogs and you’re right that not all of them can be made into books. But yours will be a great book!
Wow, Heather, congratulations! That is so exciting to finally finish your book. I will be watching out for it when it comes out in November. I hope you will get a chance to visit Toronto for a book signing. You deserve a vacation now… maybe Italy or Spain?
We come from a VERY big island called Australia and would love you to visit, especially Bumble………..but you were probably thinking of an island a little closer to home and a little bit smaller.Just a thought!

Congratulations! I’d be so proud! May I recommend Mallorca if you have time to travel about 7 hours. Maybe as far as Madrid and then train and ferry, or Door County,Wisconsin, White Fish Dunes State Park if you need tranquility closer to home. I also love Texel in Holland which is an island in the North Sea – very nice!I think you deserve Mallorca though! Can’t wait to get the book.
So excited for you!!!! Congratulations. I seriously hope you come to Miami on your book tour!!! xo
Congrats! Can’t wait to get my copy!

Congratulations! That is so exciting. I have always been so curious about the process of putting a book out. It would be super interesting for you to write an in depth post about what it is like, first hand. Your blog is a constant source of inspiration and I can’t wait to get my hands on your book.
Best,
Heidi
