Six Degrees of Inspiration

Two months ago, I received an email from Suzy Evans who was working on a story for Fast Company.  It was an article about a network of creative individuals and how they’re all connected to each other, as in Six Degrees of Inspiration.  She asked each person the question: “Who do you think is doing creative and inspiring work right now both in your industry and outside your industry and why?” As the list worked its way down, my dear friend Jessica Gold who runs JG and Co. said that I inspire her with my blog and when i was asked, I said Julia Leach inspires me which is why it seemed perfect to mention this after my post about Chance.  Her complete vision for her company makes me sit down and think about how I want Habitually Chic to evolve.  Also included in the chain are artist Maira Kalman, whose illustration accompanies this post, designer Yves Behar, architect David Adjaye, and many more.  The best part of starting my blog has been all the inspiring people whom I have been able to meet along the way but am even more honored that I am now able to inspire others.   So in order to continue the chain of inspiration, I will pose the same question to you, “Who do you think is doing creative and inspiring work right now both in your industry and outside your industry and why?”

Your blog always serves to inspire. Because I am in the antiques trade, I also look to interior designers – like Kathy Abbott -who have a fresh, modern look and timeless sensibility and will use antiques to give depth and personality to a room. http://www.kathyabbottinteriors.com

Everything about this post is inspiring. Six degrees of inspiration indeed!
    How smart is that?
Chance is a terrific idea and is sure to grow and grow. Clean, crisp merchandise with a tweak…really great.

right now I am most inspired by Sonia Delauney and Alexander McQueen. Not still working, but an inspiration nonetheless due to the current exhibits.

lovely post, thank you! working in ctp. art, i’m inspired by gallerists and dealers who know their stuff but also know how to have a good time and dont high-brow, and by Dasha Zhukova who came out of nowhere to do so much – while throwing great parties! Outside my industry i’m always inspired by hilarious contemporary authors like Joshua Ferris. wow it’s not easy just to name one person in each category!

I particularly love the photography of The Photodiarist and From Me to You by Jamie Beck. I love seeing what other people ‘see’ with their camera. That’s inspiring. I also enjoy The Year in Pictures blog by James Danziger. Photography is the running theme among many different topics.

Habitually Chic has been a daily read of mine for a long time! I enjoy your point of view on so many things! Plus, since moving to NYC, your blog keeps me up to date with so many goings on in this city!
