Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2011 Dining Room
by habituallychic
05 . 10 . 11As I mentioned previously, some designers were faced with the task of keeping certain room elements at the 2011 Kips Bay Decorator Show House. None was more daunting than the dining room with walls clad in hand-painted wallpaper which was a gift to the owner of the house from the sister of Madame Mao. Interior designer Matthew Patrick Smyth did such a great job designing around the wallpaper that you think it was part of the original design. He created special wall hangings to soften the space and played off the neutral tones to create a serene oasis. Sometimes, an unwanted design element ends up making a room.

So pretty! It is beautiful, my favorite room!
What a spectacular room. The lighting is so soft, the wall treatment so luxurious..it reminds me of the decadent showhouses that “used to be”. LOVE IT!!
While a picture sometimes doesn’t give the true feel of a room, I wonder if the table cloth competes with the wall paper, instead of complimenting it? I love design show houses though and am going to the San Francisco show house next week. Such fun!
One of my favorite rooms in the house!
What a romantic dining room! I can just envision a candlelit dinner in this room. Lovely! Thank you for sharing this peaceful space.
The wallpaper is gorgeous, and I’m glad that it was kept in the room. The dining room has such a softness, and the lighting makes it glow. Beautiful!!
