Chic in Barbour

Barbour didn’t invent oilcloth or waxed cotton coats but they sure did make them chic. What other company could lay claim to outfitting Steve McQueen and Queen Elizabeth?  I personally love the quilted versions and own the Ladies Flyweight Utility Jacket in dark stone.  The oil cloth coats tend to look a little boxy and unflattering on women unless you buy a belted option or add your own like Olivia Palermo. It really is the boys who look best in Barbour.  They are all over the Upper East Side this time of year and are my kryptonite but even the downtown boys look pretty cool in them too.  If you own one and live in New York, you might want to pull out because I hear it’s going to rain the next few days.  Happy almost Spring!
I don’t think all these styles are Barbour but they’re close enough.
Photos from Barbour.  Other photos that were taken by a certain fashion blogger were taken down after his office told me that I violated his copyright on them.

I have coat envy! Here in New Orleans it is so warm that we are wearing shorts. I know, what am I complaining about, right? Well, it’s just that every once in a while, it would be nice for the seasons to change and be able to wear one of those stunning jackets!

    Thanks for the post.

It took a paint-on-the-cashmere storm system incident (resolved, thank goodness) to get the husband back into his Barbour a few weeks ago. I’d forgotten how excellent they are, even if it is hard to get pet hair off the oilcloth ones.

And how adorable does Olivia Palermo look with hers belted?? Love!

It’s almost a rule that you can’t live in England without a Barbour – it’s a necessity of the weather.

The British Millerain Co. makes waxed cotton products, but another truly stylish piece of kit is the mackintosh. Or how about a rainmac from aquascutum or burberry?

However even my dachshund has a Barbour!

Barbour is iconic, but don’t overlook JG Glover and Zjohn Partridge oilcloth and waxed coated for ladies and gentlemen. The ladies’ coats are a little less ‘unisex’ in cut, and the sweaters are prettier than Barbour sweaters any day.

I love a guy in a barbour coat! I bought one for my boyfriend and he thought I was crazy to spend that much on that type of coat but I couldn’t help it. Such a classic! I’m going to share your post with him so maybe he’ll understand 🙂
