Oscar 2011 Best Dressed

We didn’t see much color on the red carpet at the 2011 Academy Awards but what we did see looked great!  The hands down favorite for best dressed goes to Mila Kunis in lavender Elie Saab.  She looked ridiculously gorgeous and probably made Jessica Biel sorry she didn’t attend the ceremony with Justin Timberlake!

Pregnant Natalie Portman looked pretty in plum Rodarte as did Scarlett Johansson in a similar shade of Dolce & Gabbana. This dress was not well received by most but I kind of liked it and thought she looked very pretty.
Both Michelle Williams and Cate Blanchett make short blonde hair look amazingly chic!  Michelle was wearing Chanel Haute Couture and Cate was in a very fashion forward Givenchy frock.  It was also not well liked but if anyone can pull off that type of dress, it’s Cate Blanchett!

I still can’t decide if I really like Gwyneth Paltrow’s custom Calvin Klein dress and Louis Vuitton jewelry but shimmering pale shades were popular this year.  I thought Celine Dion looked amazing in her Giorgio Armani Prive gown with long sleeves.  I really hope sleeves make a come back.

Mandy Moore looked like a movie star in nude illusion Monique Lhuillier and 14 year old Haille Steinfeld looked like a princess in Marchesa.

Halle Berry also looked magnificent in Marchesa while Hillary Swank looked gorgeous in metallic and feathered Gucci.

Hostess Anne Hathaway chose vintage Valentino in a stunning shade of red.  I hope Jesse James was regretting his decision to ever cheat on Sandra Bullock after seeing how beautiful she looked in her red Vera Wang gown.

Orangey red was the choice of two Jennifers.  Versace made Jennifer Hudson’s gown that was gorgeous.  I would have liked it even more if they had used a little more fabric on top.  While 20 year old Jennifer Lawrence looked age appropriate in a simple Calvin Klein sheath.

Reese Witherspoon was channeling the 1960’s with her swingy ponytail and Giorgio Armani dress that was a huge hit.  I’m a little undecided about Amy Adams L’Wren Scott dress.  I love the dark blue color but the cap sleeves were a bit unflattering and the necklace was a bit high.  It’s too bad they hadn’t made it with more of a t-shirt type top.  But all in all, I think all the ladies looked great as did most of the men.  Who was your favorite this year?

I loved that Anne Hathaway kept changing her dresses! It’s what kept me watching because they all looked great!

    Wow… you are fast!
Anyway since I just posted on Milan 2011-2012 Fall/Winter about Armani (my absolute favorite) I need to raise my hand for Armani’s dresses. Givenchy was a total disaster for me, probably because I remember how well the maison dressed Audrey Hepburn for years! The top part did not make any sense, the skirt and embroiderie were great. Loved also the “archival” Valentino.

I loved Mila Kunis’s lavender dress….so lovely. But I also loved all the changes of dresses that Ann Hathaway did. The first dress she came out in on stage was breath taking. Over all I thought there were more beautiful dresses than I’d ever seen at the Oscars. No one had a truly terrible one…which is kind of disappointing…because it’s fun to rip a few apart too.

LOVED Reece’s… but with classic black and white – how can you go wrong?

Sharon Stone wins for me. Mila Kunis dress was great but too low cut. From far away the lace in the bust looked like pasties. Sharon Stone was amazing and the yellow (Valentino?) dress that Florence from the music group was fab. Would have been better on a blonde with big curls.

Nathalie Portman looked so boring. Reminds me of a dress from Nordstroms.

My favorite of the night was Anne Hathaway in the red vintage Valentino. I like Gwyneth so I hate to say it but I’m not a fan of her dress, hair or tan. I think she got it wrong this time. She needed softer hair and color in her dress.

Cate for Fashion Forward and Sandra for totally Brilliant!

Nice choices! I thought people looked better than usual (meaning I saw more that looked good instead of bad). I thought Halle, Hillary, Hailey and Mandy all look exceptional. I love Michelle W and Cate, and you are right–if anyone can pull off that look, it’s Cate. I also felt better about aging when she had eye wrinkles in interviews, but still looked stunningly beautiful!

Definietly agree that Mila’s dress took first place..it was by far my absolute fave, just dreamy in every way. I hated Scarletts look, the dress, the color, everything about it..was a disaster in my book. I didnt’ like Jennifer Hudsons either, too big, too orange too much…she looks amazing dont’ get me wrong but could have done so much better. Didn’t love Amy Adams dress but love her nor did I care for Reese’s look…Halle Barry looked incredible. Did not like Nicole Kidmans dress what was with that? She normally is spot on! Thanks for the highlights!

    Loved Kate Blanchette’s dress!

Loved Gwyneth’s entire look. No one can hold a candle to her, except perhaps Halle Berry. I think the simpler the dress, the bigger the statement it makes.

I couldn’t get enough of all the gorgeous gowns last night! And I agree with you, I hope Jesse James was regretting his behavior. Sandra was stunning!!!

    Have a great week, Heather.

Michelle Williams hands down – her singular style with that hair (most women can’t wear it that short) and the lovely, simple Chanel dress was spectacular!

The show and the fashion was pretty underwhelming. I felt there were a looks that were almost there but fell short (like Amy Adams–perfect without that necklace!) My fave was red carpet Gwyneth.

Team Celine Dion AND Jennifer Hudson here. Both ladies looked simply amazing. I thought Cate Blanchetts dress was a little too severe with the short hair as well – a tad…masculine?

A lot of people don’t like Cate Blanchett’s dess but we got to see the pre show on a 65 inch HD flatscreen and the beading was breathtaking. My favorite of the night – hands down. She looked amazing.

I agree, most choices this year were pretty great. I love Reese and I thought she could pull off that 60’s chic beautifully. Gwyneth always chooses weird dresses but this year she was very “Jennifer Aniston Chic”. My favourite, though, hands down was the stunning Michelle Williams gown. Absolutely breathtaking!
