The Chic Catroux
by habituallychic
01 . 30 . 11It’s interesting how you see some designers all over the place and some nowhere at all. I wish we could see more work of the interior designer François Catroux. Maybe staying under the radar and a lack of self promotion is a French thing or a European thing. It’s certainly, as we all know, not an American thing. I think it’s even more interesting since François Catroux’s wife Betty was a model and muse of Yves Saint Laurent who was has more than her fair share of publicity. The scarcity of published projects makes it that much more exciting when you do come across one and especially when it’s their own home. Enjoy!

Love that picture of this 70s glamour couple; what a look, what an era! (If you haven’t already done so, do read “The Beautiful Fall”, which details the lives of Yves Saint Laurent & Karl Lagerfeld all through their careers, with special emphasis on their respective circles; they didn’t mix. Anyway, great read.)
Take care,
Michael
Lovely home! Always so nice to find gems like this 🙂
You are so right on spot!! Its very European to stay under the radar. But wow! what a home and what a pair. Just the fact that they are still married creates an special aura of statement.
No comparison what so ever, but I get questions why I bother to translate my blog to English when my blog is so small. I love to share and get inspiration from all over the world! Thats why I bother to stick my head out. And in Norway that is highly unusual….
Beautiful rooms…especially love the library and bedroom, that fur throw is gorgeous. Very glamorous indeed.
Thanks for the introduction, as I was totally unfamiliar with Francois Catroux. What a fabulously stylish couple! I love their home, especially the way they display art.
Being European I agree with you and Hellohello Baby about staying under the radar. Intrigued I immediately googled Francois, and did not find it surprising that FC does not have a website. He does not need to. I have had students intern with us who had their own website already.
It is a different world here.
Cheers,
Claudia
Love that almost anyone could live in those rooms – they are sophisticated, but not over the top.
Heather, you must have read my mind…I just did a post about Catroux lamenting the fact he has no website! Great minds think alike…
Super Glam! Lovin’ the fur throws!

Indeed Francois Catroux is one of the iconic decorateurs from the 20th century. Always soooo chic and interiors never overdone but to live regally. I will post a bit later some pictures from 2 apartments in Paris whom where published in the American House and Garden in 2002 and 2003.
