Kips Bay Decorator Show House 2010: Rod Winterrowd
by habituallychic
10 . 20 . 10I found so many favorite rooms at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House this year and one is actually not even really a room. Interior designer Rod Winterrowd was assigned the first and second floor stair landings and stairwell. It is a testament to his skill that he created a space that is warm and inviting yet really interesting. Stairwells themselves can be an overlooked decorating opportunity and Rod created five sections with molding that divide the space for artwork. He said he specifically created five so there would be a center focal point for the wonderful mix of art and photography. What I love is that you could easily replicate this look at home with some applied moldings and paint for probably not a lot of money. You could even pick up inexpensive frames and make your own artwork or frame your own photos. I told you that show houses offer a myriad of design inspiration!
The dapper designer Rod Winterrowd.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful stairwell and area. I wish I had that much space in a place that would be appropriate for a grouping such as this.

Yes, the staircase is fabulous indeed – can understand why you took so many shots!!
Heather,
It’s so true what you said, it can be replicated at home and I simply love when we can do just that! That’s what design is all about.
BTW, I love the pictures you take.
Good night! 🙂

I always enjoy reading your posts Heather. Congratulations to HC, for being among the top 10 blogs.
WOW! The staircase is beautiful. Heather, are there any pics of Daphne Guinness’ home? She’s fascinating!
Love how you walk us thru the stairwell with your photography.
All the candles? They look a bit, only a bit, overdone in the pics. Did it seem that way on site?

At first glance it kind of reminds me of the staircase of Sally Field’s house in Brothers and Sisters. Love the frame arrangement along the staircase and that bust!
Gorgeous!! Inspiring!
Love the photo’s from Kips Bay. Lovely…I am not at all surprise to see you among Fox’s pick of Top Ten bloggers. Congrats! Well deserved.

The iron and plaster work speak for themselves, but combined with the artwork become perfection. Mary
Proper crdit should really be given to the designer who selected and installed the entire art installation in the stairwell – Ken Jones Jr. from This Beautiful Life, LLC.
