Chic at Work
by habituallychic
09 . 01 . 10There are a lot of important issues going on in the world but the press is jumping all over the fact that President Obama had the Oval Office redecorated recently. Margaret Russell, the new editor in chief of Architectural Digest, even made an appearance on The Today Show to comment of the room. She hoped that it would bring attention to the design industry which has still not fully recovered and also to all the American companies whose products were used in the space. Every president has redecorated the Oval Office to suit their needs and style. How would you like it if you started a new job and had to live with the office decor of the person before you? I don’t think it would be very fun. Since we spend at least 40 hours working in our office and probably more, why would you not want it to be the most inspiring place? I’m fascinated by the office of creative people and have included many of them here. I’m still looking for Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta! I bet theirs are beyond chic! Enjoy!

Such inspirational workplaces.
I really like these, I could get a lot of work done here!

Loved looking at the workspaces of such inspiring people. Did you notice how many of them had flowers on their desks? Also, I wonder what Jenna Lyons finds inspiring about the large beetle picture she has on her inspiration wall – eewww!
Love Aerin Lauder’s office, but I love her home too. I am surprised that some of the others are not as beautiful as their design work, but it is a place to work I assume. I love this post. Thanks for sharing, and I can’t wait to see the others either.

The only element of the new Oval Office interior that seems a bit off (at least to me) is the coffee table. Otherwise, I think it projects the perfect feel of this presidency.
These are great inspiration – thanks for sharing 🙂
I will pretend for now!
How wonderful, I would be ashamed to show my study!
I loved this post, Heather! There’s always something intriguing about how the “successful and glamorous” spend their 9 to 5!
Not to mention he has to occasionally hold broadcasts from that room. You would want it looking professional. If it didn’t look perfect you would have people complaining about how he looks unprofessional or doesn’t care.
I love Erin Lauder’s office.
I read a remark about the new Oval Office color scheme ( “” 8 shades of brown) and I have to say I would have liked it with a little more color .. red and blue perhaps?
It is my understanding that the Oval Office is used for ceremony and not day to day office work. I think it is the perfect background to highlight the people in the room, not the stuff. It is also my understanding that the fabric on the couches does have a “red white and blue” thread woven though that may not be evident in the photos. Personally I love the room.
On another note Aerin Lauder’s desk has been stuck in my brain since I first saw the Domino layout. Love it!
I love all the mood boards… (I think you may have posted about that previously.)
The Oval Office remodel is a disaster. If Margaret Russell is promoting this work to inspire people to hire designers, she will set the industry back to the point of a full on depression.
Mauren Dowd has a perfect analysis

Very lovely post, it’s always inspiring to see where other creatives work.
Happy 1st of September!
Always great to see the work spaces of creative minds.
Note to self: buy flowers for desk!!!
Love this post!
I cannot even imagine what it would be like to spend all day in a gorgeous office like any of these!
Such an inspiring post – I love seeing behind the scenes of such creative people.
Loved this post. Always enjoy seeing how different creative people create their own spaces.
Such lovely, interesting photos.
Have a lovely, chic day ~ xox Alexandra
Great series.
Do you have any info about the chair in which Mr. Grank Gehry is sitting?
Thanks,
Charlie
All these desks certainly do show such flair. I adore the YSL image and of course every office has such personality.
Great images~

I relate to the desks with lots of “organized” piles of work on them as that is how mine looks. Not an Obama fan but do love the couches.
Talk about some much needed inspiration for a Thursday! It is time for a serious workspace overhaul.
Love this post!!
One of the most interesting posts I have seen lately! Great job! And it appears in a time when I am redecorating my own office so hopefully I can get some inspiration!
I liked everything about the Oval Office redecorating except the wallpaper. The couches look so comfy I want to flop down on them. I love the blue lamps that you can’t see in this picture, and the idea of putting quotes around the edge of the rug.
Aerin Lauder’s office is by far my favorite. I just wish I could keep my desk as neat and tidy!
ahhh, much easier to be creative in a creative space.
xo
I always love seeing where people work. So many great ideas. A wonderful post. Thank you.
