Portrait of a Rider
by habituallychic
06 . 28 . 10When I was researching my last post on Equestrian Chic, I came across an interesting book entitled The Private Passion of Jackie Kennedy Onassis: Postrait of a Rider. Jackie started riding at a very young age as you can see by some of the photos here and continued to ride with her own children. She spent much of her time riding in Middleburg, Virginia and attending horse shows throughout her life. Horseback riding teaches poise, posture and confidence so perhaps it is what accounted for her ever present grace under pressure. Definitely makes me want to sign up for lessons! Giddyup!

Jackie was just such a class act. If this was how she achieved that amazing poise under pressure – I’m with you…sign me up too!

such wonderful images.. I love Churchill’s quote!
Such an elegance about her, no matter what she was doing. Thank you for some nice memories. Growing up my daughter rode Hunt Seat…girls & horses…a very good thing. xx’s

Hi Heather,
Saw a picture of you with Charlotte Moss in the little augury blog. How fun! That must have been a great event!! Lucky you!
I never tire of seeing her image.
What a fabulous find! I adore Jackie, and I have been horse crazy my whole life! Thank you for sharing….
I’m especially drooling over that picture of Jackie on the horse with Jon Jon and Caroline riding her pony next to them… it reminds me of fall!
She looks so at home on horseback– the picture of poise and grace. I’ve never seen these before, so thank you!
I love this book, I own it!
I want to get this book for my daughter. She’s 10yrs old and has been ridding for the past three years.TOTALLY LOVES IT!!! you’re quite right about posture and poise, she has become a “right little posh Madam” now because of ridding…..Its great though, as long as she is happy…..bloody expensive!
These are such beautiful pictures, especially to someone who takes huge pleasure in riding out with my own children.
Love the Churchill quote too.

LOVE JACKIE!!!!!! Amazing post!
Fantastic post and pictures – I love Jackie and I love horseback riding, so I really enjoyed seeing all of these pics!!!
Thank for a wonderful look back at a fascinating woman, stylish on every occasion.
Cheers,
Claudia
Interesting to see those pictures. I once saw a brief film reel of Jackie riding a pony and jumping with a friend, very evocative – all sunlight and stubble fields.
