Chic in LA: The Avalon Hotel
by habituallychic
03 . 23 . 10As I’ve mentioned a million times, I had an amazing time in LA! I didn’t think anything could top my trip to Paris but LA came very close! Paris was all about the architecture and beauty of the city while LA was all about the people and design stores. I definitely could not have experienced as much as I did if I had not had LA local Christian May of Maison21 as my tour guide! Not only did he take me to the best local haunts, he also drove me all around town to see the fabulous sites and joined me to meet some wonderful blogger friends including the lovely world traveler Lisa of A Bloomsbury Life, the ridiculously beautiful and thoughtful Taryn of Taryn Cox The Wife, the talented and tall Becca of Rebecca June Interior Design, and sweet and chic Style Curator who would like to remain anonymous for now!
I also owe a big thank you to Andrea Borda Stanford, the Design + Style Editor of C Magazine who planned the most amazing day of design which included among other things, meeting Kathryn Ireland, Madeline Stuart, Peter Dunham, Windsor Smith, and Kelly Wearstler! It was a dream day! I wasn’t sure where to even begin but I figured the best place to start on my LA posts would be the very chic Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills that was designed by Ms. Wearstler and was home away from home during my stay in LA.
Uber chic interior designer Kelly Wearstler originally designed the hotel 10 years ago and is now updating it. The lobby and restaurant have already been transformed in her new 70’s glamorous style and the rooms are next in line for a make-over.
My room also looked out over the little building across the street that can accommodate more hotel guests. I really enjoyed my stay at the Avalon Hotel Beverly Hills and can’t wait to stay again after the rooms are updated. I enjoyed this trip to LA so much that I think they are going to become a regular habit!

Goodness you have been busy! Like you I would take meeting design legends over movie legends any day!
Oh what fun, wish I was there!
P.S…loved your posts on packing for your trip.

The lobby is so L.A. I love it! Last time I visited there I ended up shopping with Keira Knightley 🙂
Sounds like you had a dream visit. Looking forward to more post!
Love it love it love it! I would love to stay in a hotel surrounded by Kelly Wearstler’s designs! You must have had a blast 🙂
Okay, this is getting depressing. I’m just minutes from where you are but have been shut in with sick kids for a week! Tomorrow I’m headed straight for the PDC for WestWeek, then…I don’t know, where should I go? Nothing like a tourist to remind you of all that you’re missing. 😉
Heather, it was an absolute delight meeting you at Chateau Marmont and may I say you are the absolute epitome of chic, my dear! Loved our dinner and hope you and your Birkin bag come back to visit soon. There was a gloomy pall over the city today. At first, I thought it was smog but then I realized, “Oh, it must be because Heather’s gone.” LA misses you! xxx
Lyn – you have no idea how busy I was in LA! But there was something about the beautiful sunny weather that made you want to get out and do things. And having a local like Christian taking me around was a huge help!
Lilac & Rose – that sounds like fun! We didn’t see that many celebs since they usually start back up working after the Oscars or go on vacation. Maybe next time!
Nancy – it was magical!
Alexandra Rae – If it makes you feel any better, the same thing happens to me in New York, minus the sick kids of course. Maybe you can get Christian to take you out too! He’s got some free time on his hands now that I’m gone 😉
Lisa – Awwwww! You are too sweet! It was so wonderful to finally meet you and thank you for my wonderful present. It’s already filled with “place to remember: in LA! Keep me posted if you come to New York!
i’ll second how nice the staff was- that lil clean cut concierge had the happiest smile!
Lucky you…You must be literally purple from pinching yourself…Such lovely places, people, things…Gracias for sharing…
Oh! I see “my” building. I stayed across the street when I was there last year in one of the suites
Love the modern totem poles! The colors are divine! My brother lives in LA, seems like I need to book a visit…
