Bad News at Kips Bay Decorator Show House!
by habituallychic
03 . 24 . 10We interrupt our regularly scheduled coverage of our trip to LA to bring you the bad news the 2010 Kips Bay Decorator Show House has been postponed until the fall. The house that was chosen on the West Side was sold and therefore a new venue must be found. This is not just a disappointment to all the participating designers but more importantly, to the charity it benefits. If anyone has a townhouse to donate for the cause or if you know of anyone who does, please contact the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. I will definitely let you all know as soon as the new dates are announced.

here’s hoping the designers did not get to invested in there floorplans etc… hope they find a new home to do soon.
ooh that is a disappointment! And seems a bit surprising…(but what do I know!?)
That is too bad. It was going to be such a great house for the benefit. It would be very generous of the new owners to allow the event to go forward anyway. Maybe we could cheer them on…
Wow – that is a surprise! I have been covering Kips Bay since the early 90’s as a Magazine Editor and have never heard this kind of break with tradition before.
Interesting!
yikes. that’s a bad deal all around—just attended the Boys and Girls club’s Youth of the Year dinner in Southeast Virginia and they are an extremely deserving charity. Losing expected funds like this (or even having them postponed) can be devastating…and I feel for the designers as well.
Odd. Seems to me that if an owner agrees to have the house be used for Kips Bay, than there would be a contract stating that if the house is sold, the new owner cannot take occupation until after the show house ends, right?
I found out last week and was so upset! I was looking forward to going!
This is so unfortunate. It’s a loss to the designers who have invested money, time and energy. The key loss here is, of course, the funding. The Showhouse is a major source of funds for an organization that helps children have happier lives. Shame on you selfish real estate broker and client.
