How many homes did Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Berge own and how many auctions will result from them? Seems Christies will hold a second auction of artwork this November, half of which will be from Chateau Gabriel, their coastal retreat near Deauville, France. The chateau was of course restored with the help of their interior designer Jacques Grange whose opulent interiors were inspired by Marcel Proust and Claude Monet. The property also consists of many out buildings including a Russian dacha which should appeal to it’s new Russian owners. And of course what would a chateau be without it’s own helipad and hanger. Maybe Jacques was also inspired by the Hamptons! Enjoy!

I don’t think Yves’ choice of Monet inspired murals stood the test of time as well as his safari jackets and le smoking!
Beautiful pics! Just today I had some long-time clients email and ask if I’d take them to the viewing for this upcoming auction! Chateau Gabriel is the mot-de-jour! I can’t wait myself to oogle the inventory!

I second Vicki’s comment. The garden was and is amazing. The starkness of the sundial vista has a truly timeless quality–how lovely to go there early in the morning or late afternoon (of course, I would have been invited to spend the week-end there, also). Two days to go!!
To Lady Jicky… one of my favorite prints! “Bowood” by Colefax and Fowler… however, the cream background with lilac,celery and palest blue bouquet is my favorite colorway in the chintz/wallpaper.

YSL was the height of Chic, Monet inspired walls is the most unusual thought, and at the same time, UNIQUE. Who amongst the cognesceti and connoisseurs of the World has not lusted for to own the famed “WATERLILIES OF GIVERNY”.
I would swoon each day, watch the glow of light transform my rooms into the depths of Beauty and wear the most ruffled of YSL Rive Gauche and Couture sheer Chiffon while reading my favorite books and blogs…such as yours.
The Genius of Yves St.Laurent is timeless, and the world of Deauville and epochs lost is one WE all strive to capture…if not just in a photo, like a Butterfly of the most delicious colors.
Those are some mysterious looking rooms, very beautiful property.
He had such exquisite taste, sale after sale and yet, you really can’t go wrong! I sat a table away from YSL at dinner once, my first night in Paris, it was like being in the presence of a god. People were falling all over themselves—the man was such a creative genius. I miss reading about his collections each season…tear. Thanks for sharing!

Can Jacques Grange design a bad interiors? The answer is no. Whatever he does, he never fails to surprise me. A wonderfully talented & artistic man.
