NYIGF: Look who we ran into!

One of the best aspects of attending the New York International Gift Fair was meeting many of the owners and creators of the fabulous products on display! I was especially excited to meet the Southern duo behind Time Frame, Jean Gaylon and Katherine Pearson. If you remember, Lizzie Bailey used some of their artwork in her room at the Hampton Designer Showhouse, specifically, the collages above the bedside tables and the framed epaulets in the hallway. Time Frame is best known for their framed antique documents, drawings, and my favorite, the French menus but they also represent new artists as well. Definitely check them out online!

Kevin was surprised that I knew what Prosper Assouline, the founder of Assouline, looked like but it’s my job to know! But as a visual person, I have a knack for remembering faces. I also got to practice my French! Assouline has a lot of beautiful special edition books and new titles coming out this year and I can’t wait to check out their store in Paris!

I’ve seen Jack and Lulu stationery online but never in person and I really love their new products! Julie Murphy, seen here, and her partner Karen Cotchett, have created a really lovely Gold Collection that is not just beautiful but also reasonably priced. They offer boxed notes and personalized products and I already know I will be placing an order! Check back for more on them soon!

I was familiar with Barbara Cosgrove lamps but not that she was from Kansas City! Luckily, her daughter in law, Amy Jo Cosgrove, was on hand to fill me in on all our mutual friends and about her inspiring mother-in-law who studied pottery before creating her fabulous lamps. I may have to schedule another visit to KC just to meet her!

The king of pillows, Thomas Paul, was also manning his own booth! I have a feeling he’s going to have space as big as Jonathan Adler’s before long!

We also ran into interior designer extraordinaire Tori Golub in the Oly booth! I was introduced to Tori through Matthew White and Frank Webb and she one of the nicest designers as well as most talented! We’ve talked about working on a more in depth profile so check back for more soon.

I also heard that Bunny Williams and John Rosselli were at the show Saturday. It was funny to see some products that I bought at Treillage and other stores at the fair so now I know where they came from! It will come in handy if I ever do decide to open a store! If you plan to visit the New York International Gift Fair this week, just make sure you leave yourself plenty of time. We ended up spending five hours going through all the booths at the Javits Center and the Pier 94! Oh, and make sure you say hello to everyone!

Heather-When you return to KC visiting our friend David Jimenez and catching up with AJ from Barbara Cosgrove (she is a doll), you MUST come to the Creative Candle factory. We are minutes from everywhere. This is the first year CC is not at the NYIGF, Accent on Design 4058, as we are going full press to a new showroom in Seattle and we are returning early for the filming of Discovery Channel’s “How Stuff’s Made” on August 26 at the factory. Airdate TBD. I hope our paths cross soon. Pam at Creative Candles

You pickked two of my favorite lines when I was a designer. When I first saw Oly years ago I just about died and went to heaven and love, love Barbara Cosgrove lamps. It was the tail end of my careeer when I used both their products but what a way to finish off a 20 yr. career. I still think of those rooms. I am enjoying your show coverage and kicking myself that I ddn’t go this month.

How I would love to sit in the Assouline space. The stationery looks good. Isn’t it fascinating to see things we love in special shops at these shows and how important it is to see them mixed in with other pieces-it lends a great authenticity. Did you get to the Nest show room? where they there? la

I’ve worked with Amy Jo Cosgrove (as a retailer of their products) and can I just say that in addition to representing a beautiful line of lighting (www.BarbaraCosgroveLamps.com) Amy Jo is unbelievably sweet and easy to work with. She makes working with BCL a joy. So glad you highlighted their company and it was a great opportunity to share my appreciation-thank you!

Yea to Amy Jo Cosgrove in KC! I met her few years back when working on a project. Thanks for showing the faces of many others in this post. It is nice to see the person behind all their work — it helps to solidify it.

I cant believe you didn’t know about the show! I have been going for years, and you are usually the one with the breaking news. Anyway, I hit PIer 94 today and they were selling tons of samples. Bought some Barbara Cosgrove lamps that I had been eying for a while at SUCH a bargain! Did you see the mirrors in the Made Goods booth? I am loving their new stuff!

    How fun is the show?
