Speaking of Jacques Grange, maybe instead of stalking him in Paris, I will stalk him next August at his house in Portugal. Actually, it’s not a house but four traditional thatched roof cabanas that line the dunes on a remote stretch of the coast. Grange says the “landscape, furnishings, carpets, and cushions exert an exotic, African pull.” Some of these photos were taken in 2004 for a W magazine spread and attest to it’s timeless design. He calls the straw house “chic rustique.” I call is perfection.

I just love this rustic home that manages to be so luxe! I just returned from a weekend at a cabin that has been in my family since sometime in the 1930s. I am very inspired to incorporate some of the elements like this great seating area with mountains of pillows.

wonderful! we live in a converted barn with exposed beams and we love them so much that when we build another house we are going to do a similar structure, all white of course! Heather you make my day everyday that I check your blog!

I’ve always coveted the ‘gothic’ green & red upholstered chair – I’m sure it has also appeared in his Paris apartment?
The whole place makes me wish there was some sort of summer happening in London!
There are more pictures in the big coffee-table book about his work which was recently published. He is sublime, no? And I think the Portuguese residence is his best work ever, reductivist but rich.
I think you have a really nice eye for masculine interiors. I’m wondering if you have ever seen the villa of a man behind B&B Italia. I can’t remember his name, but I have a magazine piece about his house. I’ll try to find it for you sometime!

Love stopping in and this post is beautiful. I especially love the French Mattress’ I have googled and looked and googled some more and never found any kind of how to or tutorial on how to make them. Anybody out there seen anything?

Today I spent a wonderful day at a beach near his house(s). I didn’t see him nor Pierre Passebon (it seems they go to a “desert” one), but in Comporta you can always have the chance to be in a simple restaurant sitting next to Caroline of Monaco. Jacques Grange is truly a master and this piece of land is a real paradise. Loved the post.
