Back to Work
by habituallychic
07 . 05 . 09It was a gloriously beautiful weekend in New York! The sun actually shone so I spent most of it out of doors and away from my computer. I also got to see my friend and designer Grant K. Gibson who was in town for a wedding. But now it’s back to work.
Usually, I am the one answering design questions but today I have a question for you. One of my clients loves the look of the wall covering in the above photo and wants to use it in their entry. It’s a metallic tea paper that was available at the Roger Arlington showroom which unfortunately has gone out of business. I’ve been to many places and have found papers that look similar but so far nothing exactly the same. Someone suggested Donghia which I plan to check out on Monday but if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know. Merci!
UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who left suggestions and advice today! I found out that although the Roger Arlington showroom has closed at the D&D building, the company is still in business. They also have a website, www.rogerarlington.com which doesn’t come up on Google searches for some reason. You can call them in New York at 718-273-4500. What I like about their paper compared to the others I checked out today is the asymmetrical squares and multi-tonal quality. You can see the brochure on it here which shows all the sizes. Once I receive my sample, I can show you the difference of all the papers. Thanks again!

Hi Heather,
I tried to track down a Roger Arlington wall covering for a client a month or two ago (after the NY showroom had closed) and was able to locate a rep in the tri-state area. I don’t have their contact information anymore, but I found it by calling the Sloan Miyasato showroom in San Francisco. They rep Roger Arlington and were able to give the east coast contact. Sloan’s number is (415) 431-1465. Hope this helps!
Best,
Kate
Kate – THANK YOU! I appreciate your help and I will be calling Sloan first thing Monday morning!
Donghia for sure. They carry paper from a French line whose name escapes me that have something similar. Good luck!
It could be one of the Philip Jeffries metallic papers. Holly Hunt carries them in NYC.
Elizabeth Dow, Ayna Larkin, Old World Weavers – lots here, Gracie, etc…
it is only natural and humbling to not know all of the answers – bet the old guard decorators know, you should call them – bet they don’t blog!!
I can’t help you with that as I’m from the U.K. but I am sure that you will find the answer somewhere.Good Luck with your search. XXXX
From my days being a full time interior designer I remember Brunschwig had an asymetrical or random paterned metalic wall paper.
( not a tea paper, which is always a very symetrical patern)
Hope they still have it….
Regards
Ron ( empel collections)
good morning,
Brunschwig and fils has a similar version in three colorways (gold, copper and silver) called Erte I believe. it used to be on the ceiling in the elevator lobby of their floor in the D&D building. Cowtan & tout also has a lovely tea paper called silver sponge (comes in gold also)
I hate it when a client loves something and it can be found!
Good Luck!
Billy
Maya Romanoff- Precious Metals series. Good luck!
Schumacher has a really great new silver and gold leaf paper. Matthew Patrick Smyth used the silver leaf paper in Kips Bay Showhouse.
Good luck! Hope you find it and then reveal the design project when you are done! 🙂
Heather – Try SILK DYNASTY, we use their silver leaf all the time in dining rooms and it is BEAUTIFUL. It just glows, I’m sure they have other paterns and finishes. My favorite is “Vermeil” in color “Bronzite” (#4V-1) its a warm silver.
Hope this helps!

ahhhh, that was my project a few years back! Glad you found a source, it’s a great look. Jess
I love those chairs! No help with the paper. Have a great week!
If you can’t find the paper, or the substitutes aren’t quite the right color, that would be an easy finish for a decorative painter to duplicate.
I’ve seen a very similar one on the ceilings of a friend. Believe it was Phillip Jeffries.
I hope you had fun with Grant. What fun to see him in New York! I know someone said it previously, but Philip Jeffries has some similar designs.
hi its Stark Wallcovering! thats Andrea and John Starks apt from the house and garden shoot
I am also going to suggest that if you don’t find the paper to your clients liking have a painter replicate the look. Come by my page and see what I just did. Is related to your dilema.
beautiful image! i love a wallpaper that look like shiny mosaik, but don’t remember the company.
on my blog there is a link under my blogs i love list called purdy wallcovering, she might be able to help, that paper seems metallic in spots? she has featured many similar beautiful metallic papers. worth a try!? in any event, i too love it 🙂
I used a gorgeous paper that was quite similar for an Art Deco apt in Miami. The paper came from Bergamo. Good luck!
GOR-GE-OUS!!!!! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT
Does anyone know how durable this finish is? It’s gorgeous!
Not very durable – finger prints everywhere!
