Stalking Nate Berkus
by habituallychic
05 . 16 . 09I regularly stalk, I mean check out, Nate Berkus‘s website hoping for new photos of his work and this morning I was rewarded with not only photos but I little back story. Seems everyone is on a budget these days including his clients, one of whom asked Nate and his team to outfit “two properties with beautiful, timeless, and affordable finds.” He also thinks that although these type of projects are a challenge, they push him to be more creative and I agree. It’s easy to go out and decorate if you have an unlimited budget but it takes a little more work and thought to find things that look more expensive than they really are and it helps to start with “furniture with clean lines and classic fabrics.”
Nate says, “we found some great deals in our favorite catalogs and ordered up one-of-each from my line at hsn.com. A layer of paint added warmth. A few trips to our favorite antique stores and flea markets for objects and accessories added just the right personality to the each space. The end result was amazing!” And I have to agree! If that’s not enough Nate for you, you can watch him give a tour of his Chicago apartment at People.com. I just have to say that it’s a good thing that Nate lives in Chicago because I might really start stalking him! Just kidding…sort of!

Swoon.
i have those chalkware driftwood lamps on the mirrored desk! of course, mine are half-painted white and sitting in a cupboard- maybe nate will inspire me to actually clean them up and wire them!
did you see my post on some b & w stuff from his HSN collection? not bad! we’ll see if the pillow i ordered lives up in person when i get it in the mail!
i also wonder what his clients’ idea of affordable is, ya know?
The Sweet Life – I agree!
Maison21 – You need to get to work this weekend! I want to see those lamps and desk in your home soon! I am behind on my blog posts so I will have to check out your post and see what you bought!
It looks like some of the furniture for this project came from Oly and Jayson so it was probably a normal budget.

Maison 21..Heather is right!! Get those lamps done! They would be amazing with the ’80’s lacquer screen. Heather, this is a great post–love the simplicity. Have a great day.

Oh the people I have stalked before… I think I told you before on a comment about stalking Karl Lagerfeld when his haute couture atelier was in the courtyard of my Paris apartment… and once I saw Nina Campbell shopping in London at Alfie’s Antique Market and I couldn’t stop myself, I followed her throughout the store eyeing her purchases (about 20 gilt frames at a swinging good deal)!!
I love the 4rth pic down – the striped carpet, and antique day bed. Gorgeous!
That apt is so beautiful and perfect, I can see why he’s your favorite designer!
