Designer to Watch

The saddest part of the demise of Domino magazine was that many designers had already been photographed for the April issue which always includes the “10 Designers to Watch.” I was so excited for my friend Grant K. Gibson when he confided that he was one of the 10. Needless to say, he was over the moon and spent many hours getting ready for the photo shoot only to find out that those photos would never be published.

But when one door closes, another usually opens and Grant has just had a lovely feature on him published in the San Francisco Chronicle recently, and I’m not just saying that because he gives me a shout out! Grant really is one to watch and I have no doubt that his designs will be featured in many magazines to come, if not on the cover! In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy his blog, check out his new items for sale and follow his advice…

“Design is a process, not a product. You can’t force it and you don’t want to buy out of desperation. If you take your time and let it come naturally, you’ll make less mistakes. It’s OK to have holes in your home until you find the right piece, even if it takes years.” – Grant K. Gibson

Oh, let the chips fall where they may, because he is on my list. I love his work, his style and his aesthetic and design process.

Well said, Grant! The closing of Domino leaves a hole in all our lives… It might take years to find the right magazine to replace it. In the meantime, we have great blogs to depend on!

I love Grant’s blog, and I was so surprised to realize that a room he had designed (an incredibly beautiful bathroom) was on my ‘dream home 2008’.

I am really surprised that Domino did not cease publication until after the ’10 Designers to Watch’ issue, given that they had already done all of the legwork on photographing the spaces.

I just wanted to let you know that I love your blog. I appreciate the fact that I can click on something you have highlighted and go to a different site and learn more about the subject of the day. Also, it is so nice to be able to click on the pictures to get a more detailed look. Thanks for the great work!

I love Grant’s comment. You could substitute “life” for design and have a perfect prescription for living naturally and in trust that everything evolves to the point to where it was intended.
