I Heart Grant K. Gibson!

I’m so glad I posted about Fabrice Diomand recently because it led Grant K. Gibson to contact to tell me that he had been to Fabrice’s shop and it’s been love at first email ever since! Grant is not only the sweetest designer I’ve ever met (well, via the internet) but also fabulously talented! He began his design career in New York and worked for a few top designers before moving to San Francisco and going out on his own in 2002. His big break came when he designed a “Gentleman’s Retreat” in the 2004 San Francisco Designer Showhouse and he’s been on a roll ever since!

I’ve enjoyed not only checking out his portfolio online but also his blog! It was originally created to share his travel escapades with friends and I’m so glad he kept up with it! His travel photos are top notch (some are posted below) and his adventures in Paris are enviable! I love the story of him running after Charlotte Moss! But the best part are is sneak peeks into the homes of Suzanne Reinstein, Michael Smith and Windsor Smith! I really wish Grant lived in NYC but since he doesn’t, I will continue bonding with him over Gossip Girl and Diet Coke via email. But I hear he may be planning a visit soon so this story may be continued! Enjoy!

Just yesterday, I found THe BLOG and there I was, saying oh, what taste, what an eye, what a guy.
His photos are what I like to call “soulful and swoon-worthy!”

Just let me say that I absolutely love this style of decorating. I applaud his light approach to layering. This effect can easily become too much, but in the right hands it, Mr. Grant’s hands, it results in a gracious and sophisticated retreat.

Thanks again for yet another great post.

HC – just wished to say thank you so much for such an absolutely fabulous blog – what an incredible resource. As I’m going along on my interior decorating maiden voyage in NJ, I’ve found your blog and related link mesmerizing and incredibly helpful – especially since your bring the best of interior design to me. Found a chair on a related link at Jayson Home, contacted Thad Hayes regarding a carpet shown in his portfolio, considering a glass lamp from Swank Lighting as well as my (through you) introduction to C. Spitzmiller’s lamps. Habitually Chic is the best resource for me in bringing an elegant, airy, sophisticated style to the 3 rooms I started. I’ll have to mail you the before & after (when finished) so you can see the influences I garnered from your blog – and perhaps include a hand-written note on the notepaper I found for my twins on Whitney English’s (retailers) site.

Do you have access to designer fabrics & wallpaper & ‘goods’ shown on your blog? It would only seem fair that your blog would generate some referral income for you. After all, it appears that you are generating interest (& presumably sales) for all these other ventures.

    – KBN

Great post, as usual! Can anyone tell me the type of “tree” that is in the very 1st photo?
Thanks….keep up the great work HC

Thank you Thank you to HEATHER for this most AMAZING post today! I loved reading everyones comments too.
As for the tree question- it is a fiddle leaf fig tree.
I have one in my office and one in my apartment. We use them on every project. I have a black thumb and even I can keep these alive!

Thank you again Heather! Hugs from San Francisco-
(I will also rub in that the weather was in the 70’s here today too)

PS. The bathroom wallpaper is from Farrow and Ball. Some of my favorite wall papers to hang (well so says my wallpaper hanger). I am sorry that photo is not better…it looks like like floor is coming up in the room in the far corner. It was the smallest bathroom I have ever seen. Sadly the client sold her house and this was the only photo I could get of the space. It amazes me that people like it- as I was thinking of taking it out of my portfolio!

  19. So Lovely January 14, 2009 | 1:12 am

Oh I love the wallpaper in the bathroom.

  20. Style Court January 14, 2009 | 2:16 am

Grant is such a sweetie. I’ve loved that secretary and his silver trophies for years! When his tiny SF apartment was on HGTV, I saved that to share too 🙂

Ivy Lane – Welcome Back! I’m looking forward to a great 2009 full of new and original content!

Columnist – He could go start a side business selling his travel photography! They are stunning!

Desiree – I love it too!

Patricia/PVE – swoon worthy is a great description! I’ve known a few designers who took terrible photos which made me a bit suspicious. Grant has a great eye for all design!

Scott – I think Grant knows when to say when which is rare!

Alice – Grant has great stories!

    Thanks Laura!

Sabina – so glad you like them!

Renee – you have no idea! I have so many people to write about and so little time!

Oh Maison21, you know you are my all time favorite designer and blogger friend!

Mimilee – Isn’t Maison21 the funniest?! I know you will love Grant too!

MR Style and Jill- I think Grant should put that one up for sale!

KBN- I have access to the D&D building where designers shop for fabric and wallpaper but I don’t get a referral fee. If you need any help, let me know!

Anonymous – Grant was lovely and left an answer for you.

Grant – It was my pleasure! You are a doll! I think the bathroom is fabulous too! Definitely leave it in!

    So lovely – I agree!

Style Court – Did you ever post it? If not, you definitely should. I’m sure everyone would love to see!

Carrie and Erin – you’re welcome!

Eddie – I think you two would get along like a house on fire!
