Don’t judge a book by its cover…

12 . 29 . 08I think my reaction to hearing that the Olsen twins were coming out with a book was “what-ever” but even I should remember not to judge a book by it’s cover or in this case authors. I happened to flip through it at the bookstore recently and was pleasantly surprised. The book is titled Influence and it’s less about the Olsen twins themselves and more about fabulous influential designers, artists and interesting people. I think it was the interview with David Collins that sold me though. As you know if you read my blog, I very much heart David Collins and I loved reading more about him. Others interviewed include Diane von Furstenberg and Lauren Hutton below, as well as Peter Beard, Karl Lagerfeld, Jack Pierson, and Christian Louboutin and many others. Check it out and you just might be pleasantly surprised too!

Funny you should post this because I just finished this book (got it at the library) and have been telling all my friends about it as well. I preferred the first half though (Ashley’s). I commend them for trying to prove that they are more than just skinny little fashionplates like so many of their ilk.
Anonymous – I’m so glad someone else enjoyed it! I thought everyone was going to think I was crazy for recommending it but I really enjoyed it. Of course, I have to picture them with brushed hair and clothes that fit when I read it 😉
I am surprised people have so much a bad image of the Olsen twins… They weren’t famous in France when they were children, so I have no idea what their actual job is.
Anyway I have always thought they both dressed amazingly – true originals. In head to toe designer clothing, they look chic and comfortable (Mary Kate especially) – exactly the opposite of a Victoria Bechjam for instance.
So I am really looking forward to discovering their book… Maybe they are really clever girls?… I mean, not just girls with clever stylists…
Finally, I found someone who shares the same opinion. I saw the book a few weeks ago and thought it quite fabulous. The book is a who’s who of the fashion industry and isn’t really about the style of Mary Kate & Ashley, but who they admire. I think they did a good job, the book is tasteful.
How interesting, Heather. I have always thought these girls were the cutest esp. when they were little on FULL HOUSE. They have really gotten a bad rap of late, I think.
Glad to know their book is a good read …..Thanks!
Hmmm, I’ve heard about this book, but have been too embarrassed to pick it up! But, with your recommendation I will!
I too just got it from the library and am totally into it…I secretly love the Olsens.
i alraedy read mine cover to cover. I love it. I loved the DVF and Costa interview.
The only thing i was super sad about was the pics of missoni were super bland..she is my fav fashion heiress( I know, I do have favorites) but we recommended it on our blog tooo!!!
totally, i was flipping through this – mostly out of curiosity – last week in the christmas shopping frenzy and thought it was great, really beautiful and eclectic and full…i hadn’t had the guts to admit it to anyone else yet though! thanks for putting it out there first 🙂
I must be totally out of the loop b/c I didn’t even know they had a book. This does like quite interesting though. I will definitely be checking it out at my next Barnes & Noble trip this week.
I’ll have to check it out at the library! And maybe if I so love it, purchase it?!
happy new year!
I bought this book. I love it. I told a coworker I was ordering a mary kate and ashley book and they thought I was buying a childs book..”HOW RUDE”…(from their show)
