Say It Isn’t So!

One of my readers just informed me that Charlotte Moss is closing The Townhouse and WWD confirms the story.

Almost a year and a half after opening her East 63rd Street flagship to much hype, interior designer Charlotte Moss is closing the shop at the end of next month. “This was a difficult decision based on personal considerations,” Moss said. “While the interest in the store was gratifying, the demands of running the boutique and at the same time maintaining my interior design practice, licensing product and other aspects of my business were crowding out all of the other facets of my life — time for myself, my family, and my philanthropic and community work.”

So sad that she has to close before Christmas. I was looking forward to heading over there to do some holiday shopping. I wonder what will become of the space…but what I really want to know is if there will be a closeout sale!

Oh — how disappointing. It has become one of my favorite Manhattan shopping destinations. A visual feast! I’ve been to Manhattan twice in the past six months and have stopped in each time. It is such a wonderful concept beautifully executed.

So, so sad…I am still trying to get over the fact that the top floor, with its gorgeous outdoor space, was closed to the public. This latest news adds insult to injury! But one also needs balance and harmony in her life, and it sounds like Ms. Moss needs to close the townhouse to retrieve that in her life. Best of luck to her…ah the memories. Perhaps you can get one last interview?

Real word on the street from a member of the staff who I know (name not to be mentioned) is that the recession has hit them as well, and that is the so-called “personal” reason behind it-

Bummer! I applaud her for getting her priorities straight..sooooooo many women can’t say no to work, etc and put off what’s really important in life. I wish Ms. Moss all the very best!

Do you know when *exactly* it is closing, you said at the end of October? It’s not posted on the Townhouse site & I can’t find it on the WWD site.

I’m actually not too surprised it’s closing. I’ve been and admired a tiny wooden box there – and then I noticed the price tag ($10,000!!!!) WHAT!?!

Too bad, as the vintage book selection was kind of excellent. And they make such great gifts.

You must find out more details! This is horrible news. I just love her and the store is so great.

I quoted you on my blog:
